The White House Readies Draft of Executive Order That Could Break the Internet

Section 230 of the Communications Decency Act effectively states that websites and services aren’t liable for content that users or third parties post on their platforms. The drafted executive order wants to dismantle some of the protections that fall under this internet regulation and would apply to companies with a monthly user base that meets or exceeds one-eighth of the U.S. population. That would include the likes of Facebook, Google, Instagram, Twitter, Pinterest, and Snapchat.

Commentary: 8chan is vile, but the need to protect free speech is clear

For better or worse, the web has become our primary forum for written communication.

It follows that if there is nowhere on the web to express certain ideas, then those ideas — bad ones, to be sure — won’t be expressed in writing at all. That in turn would lead to a narrowing of the ideas available to all humans. The core idea of the freedom of speech has always been that we allow the expression of certain ideas that we condemn and believe to be morally wrong and even dangerous — because their expression ultimately fuels the search for truth. Refuting bad ideas is part of shaping new ones, as the philosopher John Stuart Mill famously argued.

And maybe, as Justice Oliver Wendell Holmes suggested, we might even consider it a good idea to question our own most profoundly held moral certainties. It’s particularly hard to do that when we are faced with true evil. But really, that’s the time the protection of free expression most counts.

So dumb. If people can’t broadcast their nonsense on popular websites it narrows the ideas available to all humans? What an absurd claim. Even with 8chan down I can’t imagine it’s hard to find white nationalist ideas on the web. Breitbart is still up, right?

You are confused.
8chan is not a popular website.
This type of speech is already banned from the mainstream internet. Now they're trying to silence it even more.

8chan isn't even down it's just on Zeronet now, which is the most optimal solution for everyone.
Normie snowflakes who can't handle real political discussion can rest easy in their delusion that the big bad wrongthinkers have been destroyed, and there is now an additional barrier to accessing 8chan, which in practice acts as an inherent IQ filter ensuring that the content that does end up on 8chan shall remain of higher quality.

Things always come full circle. Decentralized platforms are the future of the "real" internet anyways, as opposed to the phone-poster 85 IQ corporate hellscape we see now.

The snowflakes pushing for them to be taken down have such a stupid argument.

They're suggesting that in order to combat the spread of racism, we need to push all racists off the mainstream internet, into an echo chamber of racism where their racist ideas will never be questioned, only supported and reinforced by others who think just like them.

Heaven forbid we tackle these topics with open discussion and face them head on. That would just melt their little minds.

It's amazing watching these leftists deride the exact ways they themselves are spreading their ideology.

But ya that beta male is exactly the way I imagined some of these people.
That’s what I was thinking as well. Talking about targeting young people with extremist politics.. like who was raising a big stink about high schoolers not being allowed to vote not even a year ago..

Also Negan is giga chad, probably the best interview I’ve ever seen on mainstream media.

I like how towards the end they bring on that lady to talk about the leftists real end goal. A history of online activity that allows them to "intervene" with the "extremism".

Kill free speech. Intervene and stop thought crimes. Obey, conform, or else.
