Support for strike action at UPS as Teamsters union prepares sell-out contract - World Socialist Web Site

Mass support for strike action is growing among workers at United Parcel Service (UPS), where the current contract with the International Brotherhood of Teamsters (IBT) covering 280,000 hourly workers is set to expire on August 1. A strike authorization, which is being held through June 3, is widely expected to provide an overwhelming “yes” vote.

The impending struggle at one of the largest private employers in the United States, with 434,000 workers, comes in the midst of a resurgence of the class struggle in the United States, where man-hours lost due to strikes have already eclipsed totals from all of last year.

I can guarantee you will never see a strike at UPS in this day in age That would totally hurt the economy greatly ,and government will step in to prevent and avoid. I can see working without a contract for months or a year . And I have a feeling that is what will happen

This kind of thinking is exactly why corporate profits keep growing, companies are struggling to find help and wage growth is stagnant. Oh and the rich are thriving.

Uh, Pres. Clinton absolutely did not "step in" in 97.
Get your facts straight.

Well if you were there you would have remembered that Clinton sent a mediator in to help get things moving in one direction or another but after a short period the mediator abandoned the effort saying (paraphrased) "these are two premier entities at negotiating and I cant get anywhere with this statemate".

Sending a mediator in is not "stepping in". He expended resources to try to help the situation but at no time did he step in to nullify the work stoppage nor did he interrupt what was taking place.

Those are the facts.

Btw: the company cried a river to his administration trying to get him to "step in" but it fell on deaf ears.
