if you are really interested in Custer , read the book about Custer and the Indian who led the raid Crazy Horse. It really changed my misperceptions of Custer.

Started by a guy who took his family across the country and was upset with the cost of lodging on his trip.

Later, owned a cattle ranch and one day took a check into his bank to cash. They told him they would have to hold it, he insisted on cashing it, pointing out how much money he had with this bank (it was now a matter of principle) and that the balance would surely be safe. The manager told him that if he didn't like the policy, he should start his own bank. Within months he started his bank, ending up with tens of branches over the 20+ years he owned it, selling for a 9-figure payday. The man was a doer.

Decided to spoil himself, bought a Lincoln pickup. He only kept it for a matter of days because he couldn't get comfortable in that kind of luxury. You wouldn't know he had much more than a SSI check to look at him.

yes. Stockman's Bank.

A good friend of mine told me a story when he was in the logging business about meeting an old tramp looking man in an old pick up truck who turned out to be the Billionaire owner of one the largest lumber producing forests in Washington state.

Sam Walton the Wal Mart founder was the same way. he drove an old pick up and wore regular ranch like clothing.
Warren Buffett still lives in the same house he grew up in. He eats at McDonalds usually for breakfast.
