my dads friend has a small biz and he works long hours and has all kinds of health problems. apparently he makes more money flipping houses than his construction company. market failure.

Only the ones the govt wants them to read.
in our system, capitalists and government together control what everyone thinks to keep the money flowing to them. this is what the matrix was about which included platos allegory of the cave, and the "evil deciever"

According to you, he owns all the capital.

“Now, comrades, what is the nature of this life of ours? Let us face it: our lives are miserable, laborious, and short. We are born, we are given just so much food as will keep the breath in our bodies, and those of us who are capable of it are forced to work to the last atom of our strength; and the very instant that our usefulness has come to an end we are slaughtered with hideous cruelty. No animal in England knows the meaning of happiness or leisure after he is a year old. No animal in England is free. The life of an animal is misery and slavery: that is the plain truth.

“But is this simply part of the order of nature? Is it because this land of ours is so poor that it cannot afford a decent life to those who dwell upon it? No, comrades, a thousand times no! The soil of England is fertile, its climate is good, it is capable of affording food in abundance to an enormously greater number of animals than now inhabit it. This single farm of ours would support a dozen horses, twenty cows, hundreds of sheep — and all of them living in a comfort and a dignity that are now almost beyond our imagining. Why then do we continue in this miserable condition? Because nearly the whole of the produce of our labour is stolen from us by human beings. There, comrades, is the answer to all our problems. It is summed up in a single word — Man. Man is the only real enemy we have. Remove Man from the scene, and the root cause of hunger and overwork is abolished for ever.

“Man is the only creature that consumes without producing. He does not give milk, he does not lay eggs, he is too weak to pull the plough, he cannot run fast enough to catch rabbits. Yet he is lord of all the animals. He sets them to work, he gives back to them the bare minimum that will prevent them from starving, and the rest he keeps for himself. Our labour tills the soil, our dung fertilises it, and yet there is not one of us that owns more than his bare skin. You cows that I see before me, how many thousands of gallons of milk have you given during this last year? And what has happened to that milk which should have been breeding up sturdy calves? Every drop of it has gone down the throats of our enemies. And you hens, how many eggs have you laid in this last year, and how many of those eggs ever hatched into chickens? The rest have all gone to market to bring in money for Jones and his men. And you, Clover, where are those four foals you bore, who should have been the support and pleasure of your old age? Each was sold at a year old — you will never see one of them again. In return for your four confinements and all your labour in the fields, what have you ever had except your bare rations and a stall?

@rickyb a free thinker is always nice

As for the animals, I'm not a vegan but I do hate animal cruelty. The animals are locked up in a stall because if they were released they'd probably get lost, starve, and die. Animals are expensive and you don't want to throw money away. Animals are given bare rations because that's all they need. If you give them more, they'll become overweight and have problems. As long as its quality food, and the animals aren't starving I don't see a problem. As for chopping off the heads, most animals wouldn't live long lives if it wasn't for humans. Humans extend animal lives considerably.

thats from george orwell's animal farm where the animals are a metaphor for how the workers are treated.

heres what alot of people fall for: when government says its invading a country to spread democracy its just the opposite in reality. but because government says its "democracy" some people believe it.

same thing for socialism / communism. US government and Russian government called it that for their own agenda, but it wasnt. but people believe government lies.

government lies all the tiem. youd think these conservatives would figure it out, but all too often theyre the ones who fall for "war is peace, freedom is slavery, ignorance is strength"

Actually if a product isn't wanted by the consumer a business has two choice....provide something else or go out of business.....they don't just "keep the cash flowing"

Here is a good book for you Fahrenheit 451

If we stuck to the Constitution as written, we would have: no federal meddling in our schools; no Federal Reserve; no U.S. membership in the UN; no gun control; and no foreign aid. We would have no welfare for big corporations, or the "poor"; no American troops in 100 foreign countries; no NAFTA, GAT, or "fast-track"; no arrogant federal judges usurping states rights; no attacks on private property; no income tax. We could get rid of most of the agencies, and most of the budget. The government would be small, frugal, and limited.

If you think people are treated that way in America you're pretty mistaken.

Capitalism is the only reason we can have nice things.
what are you talking about?

the reason america has "nice things" is because people struggled politically for it, you have democracy here and there, and america is rich full of resources.

which part?

in terms of work weeks, workers used to to 12 or 10 hour days, probably even more. and then we got the 40 hour work week 70 years ago or whatever. time to reduce it some more. other countries have already begun. theres alot of unemployed people still and reducing hours can help more people get jobs, and pursue constructive activities outside of work like taking back democracy and government from the corporate occupation.

There are more jobs available right now then there are people to fill them. If poor people want jobs they can get them. The only people we should give money to are disabled people who physically can not work.

Or maybe he’s not good at running a business or construction. Why never put any responsibility on the individual. Someone’s business fails, “ oh it must have been the system.” The first question you should ask is what did they do wrong. Everyone does not have the same skill sets. Some people will be good at one thing and others will not but that doesn’t mean the ones who are good at it should subsidize the people who aren’t.

Nice strawman argument. You're trying to pick and choose outliers and the .use them to generalize the entire system. Yes there are some corporations who are proped up by the govt. That why I said we have croney capitalism. However the vast majority are not. And even the ones that are crooked. They still have their in services and products that are necessary to stay in business.

But what's funny is you're for big govt being involved in business. So you're just arguing against your own point.
