UPS employees assist homebound seniors in Pulaski County - The Roanoke Times
United Parcel Service employees volunteered their time on June 23 to pack household supplies and personal care items for more than 70 homebound seniors in Pulaski County.
J.D. Owens, a long-term employee of UPS, wanted to help area seniors who faced obstacles with transportation and finances to have essentials that most people take for granted. On his routes, Owens delivers packages to many seniors and knew of the challenges many faced. Under his leadership, other employees at the Dublin UPS hub joined in the effort to raise funds, pack the supply bags and deliver the supplies that Saturday morning. Owens and his co-workers contributed funds through the Pulaski County United Way.
“The Dublin UPS employees wanted to do a project in the community so they would know where the money was utilized,” said Tina King, executive director of the New River Valley Agency on Aging and Senior Services. “The supplies project means so much to seniors who can no longer drive, may not have friends or family to get them to the store, or may lack finances to purchase such items.”
