UPS should reconsider Saturday ground delivery.

I think after peak UPS should limit or end Saturday ground delivery. With the current labor shortage and contract negotiations around the corner they will have incentives to this. Most hourly and salary employees would rather be on a Monday thru Friday schedule. Many companies nationwide have already change hours of operation to allow employees more Personal time. It maybe the best move going forward in a competitive environment for attracting and keeping quality employees.
Saturday ground isn't going anywhere, all of our competitors deliver on Saturday. We could get more creative as far how we staff Saturday. Maybe, the UNION will seriously address this issue in our next contract. 22.4 is not the answer, we have had Saturday ground for 3yrs and it's a mess. Mondays are really stupid.

This notion is not remotely tied to reality.

Bizarre.

In fact, so obtuse as to be trolling.

You could smoke cigs while working back then?
Here. Absolutely. Pkg drivers still smoke here in car. I'm not sure if it's against policy....but they are seen on property(at least) doing so. Here, Feeders is no, not allowed. But it is still seen happening. I know of several smoker Sleeper teams....imagine being in that cab with two heavy smokers....24/7. Yuck. I refuse to team with any smoker. Period. Even if they only smoke outside. Don't even want to smell it in the cab.

I've seen pkg car drivers light up after a del. on the way back to car.

BTW, smoking was allowed in the Conference room during meals....small closed door Mgr.s office....dispatch office....during PCM's...bathrooms. 80's until about mid 90's. Feeders mid 2000's but really enforced last few years. Vaping being considered by vapers as benign and not smoking. We have a declared tobacco free building, smoking in designated only spaces.....not so. Mgt. seen regularly dipping and spitting....on the floor. Vaping happening all over the building. Vaping right in the dispatch office by full time mgt. Openly.

When you retire after 50 or so years you can come back as the smokers police get yourself a bullhorn and a laser pointer and you’re good to go

Not sure what my years of service has to with anything except to attack me personally.

Smoking at UPS for the most part is settled policy/history.

Laser pointers....huh?

No, what we need is a 4 day 10hr day schedule change from the outdated 8hr 5 days work schedule. Also while I'm talking about it let's also challenge the idea that when the 40 hr work week was alive and well one parent was staying home and you could still afford to live. Now with 2 people working 40 plus a week and raising kids there is zero time to do much of anything.
We drivers make enough for the wife to stay home. We had 5 kids, one income. You just have to be responsible with your money.

It was the best decision we ever made to have my wife quit.

No fancy vacations. 10 year old car...my current one is over 20.

It all depends what you value most. Our kids were the priority for us.
