I could only dream to be one of the guys getting the buyout... Remember that buyout is equal to about what you make in 15 years... Don't feel bad for the people that are getting laid off, they will walk away with a nice chunk of change.

I don't believe for a second that you are naive enough to think that every management person that leave the company in the following months are going to get a buy out, some will be dang lucky to get a kick in the stride while walking out the door.

trp I'm not naive and there are few people I trust but I don't think its going to happen the way you say. The company has gone out of its way to communicate that they will not allow any bumping or steering when we go through this process.
Well it doesn't matter what you believe, because you are just to work as instructed. I know people that are getting the buyout and they couldn't be happier. These are people with 25+ years with the company. With all the stock they have and the buyout they are receving they don't need anything else. Plus not too mention all of the affected emloyees are all currently making well over 100,000 dollars a year, so I am sure they aren't hurting for revenue. The people that aren't getting the buyout are non union, no management. To be happy that they are losing their jobs is just wrong. So when you gloat about the 1,800 layoffs think about the people that are walking away with nothing. Management walks away from the buyout with full pockets. I know guys that missed the cut and they are devasted because they wanted a buyout. The next buyout I will be on board for and I can't wait.

In support of UPSSOCKS:
I have come to know UPSSOCKS on a PM level and I want all to know that down deep he is a good guy. Perhaps I am a flaming a-hole and a complete maroon, but relatively speaking, UPSSOCKS is OK!
We discuss how best to get our shoes shiny and what value we attain by having an employee shine them versus doing it ourselves or have some airport guy do it for $20.00.
Anyhow. UPSSOCKS is a great counter-point here on BC. He'sd the manager I never wanted to be; but I bet he gets the results that are being sought.
