US Budget deal...longer hours for truckers?????

Looks like one party, in the midnight hour, snuck in a provision that will allow truck drivers to drive up to 82 hours a week. What does that mean for next years peak?

Maybe I'm confused but it says "slashed a typical truck drivers work week to 70 hours, down from 82 hours". So wouldn't that mean we are at 70 hours?

The 70 hour rule doesn't change. Part of the rules of the 34 hour reset period have changed. It used to be you had to have two periods of rest from 1am to 5am during your reset. Now you only have to have one period of rest in the between 1am and 5am during your 34 hour reset. This gives the trucking industry a lot more flexibility to run their businesses.

They can now operate with less drivers and that will in turn have more drivers looking for work, they can offer less pay and benefits to the ones they do employ. The fracking boom was a boom to all truck drivers and that increased cost to every other company that moves goods by truck. This was a gift to big business and another slap in the face to the working man.

Or...there's a constant shortage of drivers and this will help them meet the demand with the drivers they have.
