What was your experience the first day you went out with a manual?

Most of them you didn't need to double clutch.
Some of the old ones were had to down shift without grinding.
I miss my stick shift in the snow. The new automatics suck in the winter.

The one they made me take the road test in you did apparently. I didn't know why the gears kept grinding and the sup told me "they just do that." As she marked me down every time it happened.
Might be going too fast between gears.

Most of the manuals still around are pretty tired and worn out. Plus most of what is left are diesels which idle faster making shifting a little harder.
In had a young Sup with me one time. He was baffeled why I. Didn't use the clutch going from 2nd to 3rd and from 3rd to 4th.

That does take practice and you need to be able to feel it.
Exactly. I could tell by the sound of the engine. Let my foot of the gas and shove it up to the next gear..Only on a straight away, not up hills.

Its fun doing that but doesn't save any time. I usually just used the clutch. Too much start and stop traffic.
It saved wear and tear on my knee. That's the reason I did it.

I had one package car for several years with a stiff clutch that was murder on my knee. After I finally got other cars my knee was a lot better.

My sup said they don't let you drive one at driving school and the day I get back they are putting me on a route. The road test was my only chance to get a feel for it and I could easily be disqualified for having trouble with the stick.
Often they will let you drive around the parking lot to practice if you ask.
Can't even imagine how many times a day you push that clutch in?

I'm so use to driving a manual ups truck , when i get put in an automatic ,I ghost clutch , I feel like an idiot. Lol
When mine was in the shop. I was all screwed up. Kept looking for my seatbelt. I'm used to it being by my shoulder not my lap...lol

Agree, couldn't imagine spending 60 some thousand dollars on one of these new sports cars and it is an automatic. Lmfao. Get the friend outta here.
Driving 2 whole blocks a day? With the back door open!
