Don't be so naive. My hub gets away with breaking union contract all the time unless you stand up for yourself and file grievances. Like most of us do here. Most of the time all it takes is asserting your union rights and knowledge and then management complys. Unfortunately, most non drivers here don't even know anything about our contract or even have the balls to stand up for their rights that they pay for. It's rather pathetic. I don't know how it is at other hubs but we go through management pretty quickly too. Our last center manager was escorted by police out of the building and the rest of the management was transferred to other hubs. PT sups are the only management that's been here for 2+ years. I'm not going into any details because I don't know who the hell looks at this site. Anyone from my region will know exactly what hub I'm talking about.
I he is doubt a troll. Same goes for my center. Drivers are always needed in my building because either the PT's are set in their ways, aren't licensed, or have points and restrictions on their license. Also, there are quite a number of employees that I know of that have 2 or fewer years inside going driving at my hub. Myself included!! I could understand centers outside of the big cities not hiring drivers, but at least where I work new drivers are a necessity for reasons just mentioned.
Really? Do you know this building named queens north? My friend works in it. Is it true that the queens north and maspeth employees shore the same area seniority and can bid into each building? I work on , there is no oppurtunity.
So because you don't want it for yourself, you like to discourage others from something they may be good at and/or like AND make a good living doing it? Man I'm glad you're not my dad.
If there are no new bids posted, my guess would be the ads are omitting the fact that they are seasonal driving positions. Our centers are bringing in tons of temps.
I think somebody hates the job and/or company! Maybe it's the hard work? Work-ethic? Fact is this is a CAREER that is more secure than the majority of careers out there. It also provides a pension plus 401k plus deferred stock. Not to mention the many many fringe benefits and ups employee discounts... I save 150$ a year on my cell phone plan. Am provided a lawyer FOR FREE from the Teamsters(saving well over a couple thousand) etc etc.
truth is good luck in finding a job that you don't need more than just a high school diploma and a good work ethic and make the money that most people can only make with a masters degree. Sorry to break it to some people but in these physical labor intensive jobs, yes hard work is usually required... God I just can't see how some people are so unhappy. I know the company has there ways of pissing us off at times but g da$&!
I'm going to guess there aren't too many "happy" folks in package making over six figures. A few, granted. I'm sure after 25-30+ years in feeders six figures is okay, but at what cost?
