I brought up the theory of the ‘Great Filter’, which posits numerous reasons we haven’t heard from anyone else out there, and I added my own spin as to why we possibly/certainly won’t leave this planet, which, IMO, is climate death and political apathy.
Ok.
You brought up the great filter theory, and associated the reason as climate change. Then you linked me to a Wikipedia entry on it that referenced this article also blaming climate change:
There's a compelling explanation for why we've never found aliens — and it could mean humanity is doomed

The theory is weak.
I'm all for energy efficiency and investment in science and space though.

You have no answer. It's either get your way or ridicule the obvious.

My way is we all work together.

What is this ‘obvious’ you speak of?

Is it the obvious fact that the planet is warming?

It is.

Is it the obvious fact that whether or not you think ‘climate change’ is man-made, the fact is that we’re currently dealing with billions of dollars of destruction to our current way of life due to warming temperatures?

Think about it anyway you want, but we’re going to pay now, or we’re going to pay later.

I personally don’t care if man is responsible for climbing temperatures.

But, temperatures are climbing, and there are real world consequences.

The real-politick of both sides isn’t serving us all that well.

The fact is that st is going down and we need to address it.

I just like the theory, skip the climate disaster portion, it’s as good an idea as any as to why no one’s picked up the phone.

Do you think we’re the only sentient beings in the Universe?

No.
Personally I find concepts around multiverses more interesting, but I try not to waste too much time down those rabbit holes.

Yes, I enjoy the concept of one quadrillion BA’s running around multiple versions of this galaxy, but do you think we’re totally alone in this Universe, version 1.0?

Soooo, if not, where is everybody?

Obama just paid for a $15 million dollar mansion on the beach on Martha's Vineyard. He apparently doesn't believe in climate change. Climate change alarmists race all over the globe on private planes as yachts. Must not care about their carbon footprint. Don't forget the energy expended building and living in their huge homes. And always it comes down to the government must control everything to save the planet. I like freedom and so do most Americans.

It’s high-dollar real estate.

Republicans always love money, unless Democrats are spending it.

You’re fine with Government doing certain things, but you’re skeert about the Government doing other things?

Cry all you want, seems to me you’re happy with GOVT overreach when it suits your purposes, but when it doesn’t, you’re crying foul.

Sad.

It's high dollar real estate on a beach that will soon be under water according to climate alarmists. Apparently the Obamas don't believe that.

Any government program that can better secure his well being is just fine in his opinion but those that are not are wasteful spending. A mindset that is entirely in keeping with the selective conservatism we see today.

Today we see the constant hand ringing and fear mongering regarding "socialism". Ok, but have you ever noticed that programs that are at least in part based on socialist ideals, you know Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid when you're in a nursing home and your money is all gone, etc, etc, are being completely left out of the conversation? How come? The answer is simple The people who are out there preaching the evils of socialism know damn well that their well being later in life will be heavily dependent upon those programs and therefore completely avoid bringing them into the public conversation.

Just an FYI on President Obama's property, the one he is buying from the owner of the Celtics. The sea levels would have to rise by at least 5 feet to threaten the home. That is not likely in his lifetime, so why not? YOLO

1. Last time I looked Earth is the only known planet capable of supporting human life? Shouldn't preserving it's ability to continue to do so be a top priority?

2. The most expensive private residence currently on the market is appraised and listed for 195 million so a 15 million dollar property isn't anything too
excessive for a former president. I would imagine that the homes of Bush I and Bush II would be worth a lot more. More importantly while you were
living in a tent in Bersekistan and defecating out in the field with the goats, real estate values in some of the most desirable parts of the country went
up a bit. BTW . Jimmy Carter's home in Georgia that he bought decades ago and still lives in today along with riding public transportation and shopping
at Dollar General is appraised at $159,000.

So, we shouldn’t do anything because other people are doing things?

What a weak argument.

The US used to matter, we used to be the world leader.

Guess who’s kicking our butt in renewable energy?

China.

Guess what the next gigantic market is?

Africa.

Guess who’s kicking our butt in that market?

China.

Whether or not you think climate change is real (it is), the US is acting like an ostrich with its head in the sand while other countries assume the vanguard of new technologies and new markets.

We’re falling behind, and your argument is “but, but, but”.

Weak.
Ask China how many coal fired electric plants they have. Measure their air quality. And Africa the next great market? For what, poverty? All that plastic dumped in the ocean? China and other Asian nations account for most of it but we must stop using plastic straws! We're going to save the planet! And you accuse me of parroting talking points.

He bought right on the beach. Apparently beach erosion is ok. According to the high priestess AOC we have 12 years to save the planet. This is our WWII! Meanwhile all the concerned rich and powerful liberals are flying all over in private jets as well as on yachts to spread the news. And those mansions like the Obama's not only took a lot of energy to build, but use a lot of energy to heat, cool, and maintain. But it's ok for them. Do as I say, not as I do.

What does Jimmy Carter's home have to do with this other than prove he's got his head on straight? There was just a huge conference to discuss climate change with a bunch of liberal mucky mucks who flew in on private jets as well as on huge yachts. And check out Al Gore's mansion before you suggest most are living in modest digs. The fact is if you spend $15 million on a beach then either you don't truly believe in climate change or you're dense. Which one is Obama? Both?

Considering how Jimmy Carter is terrible at everything that doesn’t surprise me, the :censored2: couldn’t even figure out how to turn his political clout into money.

I wonder how much the down payment was. Being president doesn't pay much. And community organizer pays even less. His wife book probably didn't do that well. I wonder if tony rezko his old Syrian friend bought it for him like he had to buy the land next to his house in chiraq. I thought he was from Chicago he hasn't been living here.
