UPS delivers resilience, flexibility with predictive analytics – CIO

The logistics titan has created a business intelligence platform that uses advanced analytics and machine learning to support forecasting, operations visibility, optimization, and reporting.

On any given day, UPS delivers roughly 21 million packages (far more in December), creating millions upon millions of data points as it tracks the real-time status of each of those packages as they move across the company’s shipping network.

In the past, UPS relied on historical data and know-how from expert planners to track package status, but that approach was imprecise and scaled poorly.

“The processes and approaches of the past are not going to help UPS adjust to the very dynamic nature of supply chain management today,” says UPS chief information and engineering officer (CIEO) Juan Perez. “Our customers today have much more complex supply chains. The movement of shipments from shippers to receivers is getting much more complex because of the way that products are distributed across the network. The customers are demanding more precision in terms of when we deliver things. The tolerance for failure in these networks is lower and lower.

UPS pushes for changes to Postal Service reform bill – Yahoo

As Congress deliberates on a bill to put the United States Postal Service on a better financial footing, competitor UPS is lobbying furiously to make things more difficult for its old nemesis.

The Postal Service has lost money every year since 2009, but a recent bright spot on its balance sheet is package delivery. It made about $11 billion in delivering packages in 2020, as Amazon and other delivery-dependent businesses boomed amid COVID-19.

The Postal Service did that by utilizing and expanding its existing systems and fleet for mail delivery. A bill pending before Congress called the Postal Service Reform Act of 2021 would codify this integrated way of doing business.

This Dividend Stock Is the Complete Package – NASDAQ

No matter the industry, the best companies in the world tend to share a few core traits. These include strong leadership, innovative products and services, competitive advantages, and room to scale. These companies tend to make great stocks, too — think Amazon, Walt Disney, and Starbucks. Yet the reality is that the broader market’s rebound from last year’s pandemic-induced sell-off and its year-to-date 17% rise are making stock bargains harder to come by.

To find a balanced company whose stock is also selling at a reasonable price, you have to think outside the box. Or rather, outside the parcel. United Parcel Service (NYSE: UPS) is a company you’re probably familiar with, but a stock you may have never considered.

Here are three reasons why this stock is quite literally the complete package, and may be worth buying now.
