Suspect arrested in armed robberies of UPS drivers – KTVU

A suspect has been arrested in a series of armed robberies of UPS drivers in Oakland earlier this month, according to the Alameda County District Attorney’s Office.

Gregory Taylor-Bowie was arrested Dec. 14 on suspicion of carjacking the vehicle used in robberies of four UPS employees over three days, police said in a probable cause statement.

Taylor-Bowie allegedly carjacked a black Acura RDX on Nov. 11, using a handgun. Then at 3:40 p.m. on Dec. 9, Taylor-Bowie allegedly pointed a handgun at two UPS employees delivering packages, Oakland police Officer Perla Ortiz-Salas said in the probable cause statement.

Taylor-Bowie had one of the employees put some packages inside trash bags and Taylor-Bowie fled, police allege.

UPS vs. FedEx. Who gets to be king of hill? – Land Line

Was 2021 the year FedEx passed UPS to become the biggest carrier in North America? In its annual top 250 carriers list, CCJ Magazine said FedEx is now number 1. We’ll have to wait until June for the Transport Topics top 100 carriers list. It will probably show the same thing.

Earlier this year, UPS sold off its LTL unit UPS Freight, and UPS CEO Carol Tomé declared the goal was to make UPS “better not bigger.” It sounded like she was preparing the world for a UPS move to second place.

It was a long road to the top for UPS.

The company began in Seattle as a bicycle messenger service in 1907 but soon began delivering packages for the Bon Marché Department Store using a doctored Model-T Ford. In those days before most families had a car, department stores delivered your purchases. You didn’t have to carry stuff home. What was then called Merchants Parcel Delivery eventually served department stores up and down the West Coast before expanding to stores across the country.

New Paris’ only UPS driver retires after 39 years – WNDU

Known as “George the UPS man,” George Doi has been the only UPS driver in New Paris, Indiana since 1988.

George delivered his last truck of packages before retirement on Christmas Eve.

“It’s kind of exciting you know I’m just ready to move into a different step of my life you know the job’s changed so much, and it’s a lot more work and once you hit sixty, your legs don’t want to go in and out of the truck 200 times a day,” said George.

New Paris residents put out hundreds of signs displayed in yards and window fronts to thank George, while greeting him during his deliveries.

Pets also came out to show their support, like Rizzo, who runs out to meet George every time he delivers a package.
