Both my kids have waited tables. my son pays most of his bills on waiting tables at a NY Style Pizza place...Great food and all kinds of tap beer.he can tell you about every beer ( which is needed with all the ipa's and diff kinds of beer thses days) and .. he's a hussler with good manners and personality.. He does well. But you do here the horror stories of no tips from grown ups , too.

I always tip well and very well. I want good service. I like to think I'm tipping my kids when Im get a young kid going to college..

Every once in blue moon my mother-in-law will pay for a lunch. For the 3 of us its usually $25 to $40 depending on where we go. I have yet to see her leave more than a dollar tip. I will make up the difference and her standard responce is "OMG -that is way too much". On the other hand she has no trouble at all dropping a hundred at the indian casino. :bag:

I always hate how when I go out to eat it is always math time as well. Ok, dinner is 17.99 + 9.5% sales tax + 15-20% tip. I end up feeling ripped off even though I know I have to tip. I would prefer the price was totaled out on the menu so I know how much i'm going to spend.
Really?
The menu has prices listed and is the base point of what you will have to spend.
I am a mid-century relic, so please forgive me.
The mental math to figure the percentages would take me about 5 seconds.
Then again, I am old school.

Yep, can count on all ten fingers and ten toes. We never had calculators in class and had to do all of our math long hand. Bet he doesn't even know what that means.

Women are great at figuring tips.
They just use their shopping brain.
The price is $29.95 and you have the Kohl's 30% off coupon....what are you paying?

OR if your a bigger shopper, the Manolo's are $1299.00 and today is a 20% off special......how much are you actually saving?

Then just substitute a club sandwich or a prime rib dinner for the 'product' and pretend you have a 20% off coupon.....that amount would be you tip. No need ever to pull out your calculator.

10% of 1300 = 130 x 2 = 260.00 :vacuumsm:

I've worked in the hub for almost 11 years. Wtf did you expect, a NASA scientist?

We are talking about basic math here.

Using your example:

$17.99 for dinner plus 9.5% sales tax plus 15-20% tip.

First you figure out the base total, which would be the dinner and tax. Round the $17.99 to $18 and the 9.5% to 10%. 10% of $18 is $1.80. $18 + $1.80 = $19.80 which you would then round to $20. Your tip would be $3 at 15% and $4 at 20% making your total with tip $23-24.

Girls math. $17.99 dinner. take away the decimal point, 1799. Slash off the last digit. 179 round up to 180. 180+180= 360. 360 = $3.60(20% tip). I didn't add tax to the equation, but you get my point.
