Why Carry a Gun?

My old Grand pappy said to me,

'Son, there comes a time in every man's life when he stops

bustin' knuckles and starts bustin' cap and usually it's when he becomes too
old to take an ass whoopin.'

I don't carry a gun to kill people.
I carry a gun to keep from being killed.

I don't carry a gun to scare people.
I carry a gun because sometimes this world can be a
scary place.

I don't carry a gun because I'm paranoid.
I carry a gun because there are real threats in the world.

I don't carry
a gun because I'm evil.
I carry a gun because I have lived long enough
to see the evil in the world.

I don't carry a gun because I hate the
government.
I carry a gun because I understand the limitations
of government.

I don't carry
a gun because I'm angry.
I carry a gun so that I don't have to spend the rest
of my life
hating myself for failing to be prepared.

I don't carry
a gun because I want to shoot someone.
I carry a gun because I want to die at a ripe old age
in my bed,
and not on a sidewalk somewhere tomorrow afternoon.

I don't carry
a gun because I'm a cowboy.
I carry a gun because, when I die and go to heaven,
I want to be a cowboy.

I don't carry
a gun to make me feel like a man.
I carry a gun because men know how to take care of
themselves
and the ones they love.

I don't carry
a gun because I feel inadequate.
I carry a gun because unarmed and facing three armed
thugs,
I am inadequate.

I don't carry
a gun because I love it.
I carry a gun because I love life and
the people who make it meaningful to
me.

Police
protection is an oxymoron.
Free citizens
must protect themselves.
Police do not
protect you from crime,
they usually just investigate the crime after it happens
and then call someone in to clean up the mess.

Personally, I
carry a gun because I'm too young to die and too old to take
an ass whoopin'.

A LITTLE GUN HISTORY

In 1929, the Soviet Union established gun control.

From 1929 to 1953, about 20 million dissidents, unable
to defend themselves,
were rounded up and exterminated.
------------------------------

In 1911, Turkey established gun control.

From 1915 to 1917, 1.5 million Armenians, unable to
defend themselves,
were rounded up and exterminated.

Germany established gun control in 1938 and from
1939 to 1945,
a total of 13 million Jews and others who were unable
to defend themselves,
were rounded up and exterminated.
------------------------------

China established gun control in 1935.

From 1948 to 1952, 20 million political dissidents,
unable to defend themselves,
were rounded up and exterminated.
------------------------------

Yup, Moreluck, got to love those Americans "defending" themselves !

US police fatalities jump 37 percent in 2010

ATLANTA - The number of police officers who died in the line of duty this year is up 37 percent from 2009.

The data released by the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund on Tuesday are for the year up to Dec. 28.

They show 160 officers died in the line of duty across more than 30 states and Puerto Rico.

That was up from 117 officers in 2009, a 50-year low that encouraged police groups.

Fifty-nine officers were killed by gunfire in 2010, while 73 officers died in traffic incidents.

The group said there more so-called cluster killings of two or more officers at a single time, helping raise the toll.

How many of these deaths were a direct result of alcohol abuse on the part of the perpetrator?

And, since a majority of these deaths were due to traffic accidents, does it follow that we should go ahead and ban cars?

Perhaps instead of blaming inantimate mechanical objects for these tragic deaths, the focus should be on personal responsibility for the individuals who misuse those inantimate objects.

Hey Klien....if we are going to blame the crime rate on the availability of guns, should we also blame the fact that you got fired from UPS on the availability of beer?

Alcoholism in Canada

Alcoholism and alcohol abuse statistics reveal that in Canada an estimated 4 percent of the population over the age of 15 is dependent on alcohol. There are twice as many male alcoholics as female alcoholics.
The highest rate of alcoholism occurs in Canadians between the ages of 20 and 24. In Canadian surveys, about 20% of the current and former drinkers stated that their alcoholic drinking negatively affected them, usually affecting their jobs or their finances.
The problem of alcoholism can be seen from a variety of perspectives: biological (how alcohol affects the body), psychological (how it affects the mind) and sociological (how alcohol is provided and consumed in society).

Eh?

Are you sure those 59 police officers were so incapable of defending themselves against drunks ?
evidently they were, the are dead.
I don't understand you even bringing this up. What on earth does it have to do with citizens protecting themselves? I really doubt any of the officers that died due to gun shot were killed by citizens protecting themselves.

Law abiding citizens don't kill people with guns. By definition when they start killing people with guns they are no longer law abiding. How convenient.

While technically true, not always the case. A law abiding citizen can kill someone with or without a gun and still not be a criminal.
