Mr. Obama was in the middle of his remarks when a woman in a white suit stood up and said, Mr. President we wrote you a song. POTUS tried to get her to wait until later, but she persisted and the table of 10 broke into a song that pointed out they'd just spent $5,000 donating to his campaign and went on to protest the treatment of Pfc. Bradley Manning. The woman stayed standing as they sang. Mr. Obama looked to Ms. Pelosi and asked, Nancy did you do this? Ms. Pelosi had a look on her face, as she stared at the singing group, that definitely said she did not. The song - will send quotes after transcribe - talked about Bradley Manning and how he is "alone in a cell..."

The 10 singers then passed around 8.5x11 signs that said "Free Bradley Manning" or had a photo of him. Then the woman in the white suit stripped off her jacket to reveal a black T-shirt that said Free Bradley Manning, with an image of him. "We paid our dues. Where's our change?" they sang. USSS and WH staff had moved near the table at this point. The woman was escorted out. Two others left on their own. (The rest stayed and applauded at the end of POTUS's speech.)

Well, back to topic :

If the reps stick with saving the tax breaks for the rich, and cutting medicare instead, anybody with just a tiny brain can figure the outcome of that !

Choice #1 : cut medicare
Choice #2 : cut Bush tax savings for the rich

See how the Americans choose.
But, our conservatives (in power at the time !!!) tried to fool around with our healthcare once in the 90's, and after the election, they didn't have a single seat to sit on, didn't even meet official party status. (cutting them off from any government grants, such as deductable private donations).

They were thinking of privatizing it, US style, basically.

I believe it's been shown that if you simply let the Bush tax cuts expire, the deficit would be gone within the decade.

I forget which thread I read this in but weren't the Bush tax cuts simply the removal of the Clinton increases? So, if we let these tax cuts simply expire, we would, in essence, be back under the Clinton plan. Didn't Clinton leave office with a budget surplus?

And was that such a bad thing?

Now another republican stood out, and said they want more US military control over Libya, and take over from Nato and the Europeans.
Luckily the reps aren't in power, otherwise the Europeans, including Canada, might just say, you want it, you can have it, we rather save our money and pay down our debt, anyways.

Keeps those reps talking, about cutting medicare instead of taxing the rich, and taking over the military action in Libya and spending more, and yes, Obama will win with ease a 2nd term !

(Mediaite) — Today The New York Times admitted they made the mistake of treating a fake creation from The Onion as something legitimate. Last week the Times printed an article documenting the history of the squeaky-clean teen magazine Tiger Beat, and included a retrospective of past magazine covers. Unfortunately (or humorously depending on one’s perspective), in the collection they also included a parody cover created byThe Onion, which featured President Obama.

If the government started today, and didn't spend a dime on anything until the national debt was paid off, it would take 389 YEARS!

If that were true, what point would there even be in cutting any spending at all? I think someone is misinformed or making things up.
