So, you are totally fine with UPS moving all their Call centers to India and the Phillipines, as long as the workers don't produce any goods that could be shipped back to the US ?

Okay fine, it's you that will need to pay more for a Apple Iphone, or notebook, any electronics.
So, if an American buys an Iphone (made in China), that phone will cost now more, because Apple will need to pay more taxes.
But, if that same American buys a Blackberry (Canadian company), there won't be any added costs to it, since the Canadian company is not subject to those added taxes.

Is that your way to save jobs ? Put the American companies more out of competition ?

They will need to add both budget cuts together.
Saving $2.5 or $4 Trillion over 10 years is not acceptable, since the budget already goes over $1.5 Trillion per year !
Both of those plans rasie the national debt, just that it will be slower increasing.

They need to find a lot more money, yet ! Over 10 years they need atleast $10 Trillion, otherwise the AAA credit rating is in big time jeopardy.

Neither plan fixes the problem, but part of the question is which one does the most good. Yes, more needs to be done.

Well, if it would be me deciding :
Start with cutting the Bush tax cuts to the rich, cut off medicare/aid & SS for the rich.
Introduce a partial self payment ($50 sounds reasonable to see a doctor, while on medicare). That should stop most people from seeing one, when they have a light illness, llike the flu, cold or sneezes.
Also implement a self payment on prescription drugs, of 10-20%.(unless those drugs cost 100's or thousands of dollars per month).
That will aslo stop some from seeing a doctor, and getting free drugs, for those light symptons as mentioned above. (free prescription cold medicine is cheaper then off the shelf non-prescription).

Taxation overhaul (Tax reform) - Make it fairer, and cancel some of those rediculous tax write-offs.

And, if all that isn't enough, add a Vat Tax sometime in the future.

I know all the above sounds a bit harsh, but the longer they wait, the higher the national debt, and the more painful it will get.
They need to avoid becomming another Greece, and run out of money overnight !

What many call the bush tax cuts is in reality just a continuation of the existing tax rates. Clinton had passed a bill to raise the tax rates, all Bush did was to void Clinton's increases.

And he was dead on, too !
That's how much it took to run the country those days, $1.2 - $1.5 Trillion more in debt each year.
That's what Obama was left with.
Obama's problem is, he didn't make cuts and raise taxes as soon as he got into office, but being in the biggest recession ever, he couldn't !

Klein,
It gets very tiring the continued attacks on the "rich" Has anyone considered an attack on the lazy ?? Of course not.
Between a limited social safety net and a whole range of charitable organizations the truly needy people would easily be taken care of. The problem we have is a growing sense of entitlement, free food, housing, education health etc, etc, etc.
Many , many of these people freely choose to do nothing with their lives and expect the "GOVERNMENT" to provide what they did not work for.
It is amazing, some people would consider me "rich" today.
At fourteen I got a NYC work permit and worked evenings and weekends as a delivery boy. I paid attention in school worked hard and took out loans for my "higher" education.
While in school I worked at UPS unloading trailors for four years where I saw many "future lazy" people quit because the work was too hard.
After receiving a college degree I drove for UPS. The majority of my union friends ridiculed me -told me I was a fool to go into management--no security-no OVERTIME.
They were somewhat right as a supervisor-day,night, hub ,package I spent many 14 to 15 hour days with NO OVERTIME.
I put all my extra money into UPS stock and even risked more by taking out loans to invest and risk more.
40 years later after nine relocations to many different states and two different countries i am considered "rich"
In todays world that makes me evil --the guy who worked ??? As Obama would say W.T.friend. ??? When the Government was pulling Social security tax out of my pay every week when I desperately needed the money --you now say because of my hard work -they should give my money to the lazy guy.
In recent years I have paid the HIGHEST tax rate, Highest property taxes -I do not have a MAGIC accountant nor bullcrap deductions. I pay MORE than my fair share.

Just once in a while it would be nice for people to say Thank you for my contribution to society --instead of being VILLIFIED for working my whole life and being successful.:peaceful:

That's just the way it is in society.
Look, I'm single, I pay the highest tax rate (and yes, I need to make out a check and pay the government(IRS) within a week (deadline for us)).
I pay higher taxes so married with children couples have it easier. What's my benefit ?
Some people pay ,(by taxes), for roads and bridges, even though they don't drive.
I pay for playgrounds, that I have no use for, or education that I never used here, but need to pay it for the rest of my life.

If you want a strong country, citizens need to stop thinking of themselves, but think of the country as a whole.
And who knows, you may have a granddaughter with 2, 3 or 5 kids living off welfare in the future ?
Or a grandson in jail and a drug addict.
Or do you really think your blood-line down the road, will all be as hard-working, disease free, and healthy, like yourself ?

Face it, the more you work, and the more you earn, the bigger of share you pay on taxes.
Can you think of a better system ?

It's hard to take from people that don't have nothing !
And they are fellow Americans.
I hope when you stand to the National Anthem, you think of the country, and not only yourself.

I know, I sound social now, but like I said, you can't take money , where no money is to be taken.
Food banks are already running low or out of food, so don't count on these volunteer programs to always work.

Do you really want an America, that when tourists visit, they think they are in a 3rd world country ?
That's basically what would happen if you take away welfare housing and more living costs, most would end up on the streets or in ghettos.

I don't know how easy it is to collect welfare in the US. But, here, impossible if you don't have kids living at home, or are medical capable able to work, or you're not a Native.

My own mother for example, got kicked out of social housing, because her young, and only, son (my half brother) at age 16 at the time, quit going to school.
Welfare caught on, and basically declared him (the son) being independent if he no longer goes to school.
Therefor my mother was no longer entitled to social housing, and had to move elsewhere for double or tripple the rent.

So, yes, Islandfox, there are certain ways, the US could save money regarding social hand-outs.

Klein,
So thats o/k because of society.
I do not and will never buy it.
As far as future "offspring" --I knew I was too poor to bring children in the world --now I am sick and tired of supporting everyone elses !!

William Brantford solved the Problem with the first pilgrims.
The first year everything that was grown and produced was put into th 'SOCIALIST COMMUNITY POT"
It did not take long to see who worked and who were the takers.
The second year you kept what you produced.
Enough of ignoring the lazy --tough love will actually give them more fufilling lives --or at least it will a lesson learned For THEIR grandchildren.
STOP the generational welfare.
Any one today in a free society can educate themselves and work hard ---way, way too many LAZY people !!! The government is enabling the laziness !!!

Also when I hear the national anthem I am proud that a first generation American was able to work hard and be successful.
How many people have nothing because they are lazy ???
I do alot of research on excellent charitable organizations --I spread my wealth around --I do not need Obama doing it ---Percentage wise I give way more to charity than both Obama and Biden combined !!

Good point!!! Ive said many times before...this country rewards failure. If your suscessful your looked at as evil. What is the incentive to get a good education, work hard and make money. Its much more easy to be lazy and let someone else take care of you.

ISland,

My ole my, the wonder of self righteousness and overglorification of "hard work". When this country was founded, hard work was NOT REWARDED, it was taken. The national anthem at the time was shameful as it did not represent all people living in the United States.

Africans, Irish and Chinese were brought into this country as slaves and forced to do the "hard work" you proudly claim. They were not paid, they were not rewarded and they were not respected. In fact, not until 1929 did this country even take up the issue of hard work and a fair wage.

It wasnt until the mid 60's the african americans would be considered regular americans and it took another 15 years for afirmative action to get more minorities in the workforce.

You call them lazy? Because it took the goverment to correct a very wrong?

You say you are a proud american to be the first to work hard and be successful, but how do you think african americans , mexicans and other minorities feel today about their chances at success over the last 20 years?

Its amazing how many people want to buy into the "i am in the rich catagory"....so stop attacking me.

Get real. There are tons of "rich" people who support raising the tax on the top 1%, and you my friend are not in the top 1%.

You would have to have a "taxable" income of over 1 million dollars a year to be affected.

This country created "lazy" people when it tried to keep them out of the workforce, cities and suburbs. Its only been 20 years since integration has taken hold and people allowed to live freely among each other.

Better reflect on your research a little better.

Peace.

An "attack on the lazy". I like it. As in "if you are breathing and not working, you are lazy. Go dig a ditch you lazy waste of human flesh."
