If we don’t lower expectations, then what do we expect of UPS, Fedex, Amazon and others? Without fudging numbers here and there, we suck and there is no solution to be had quickly. Networks are near capacity and “Next Day Air” is something of a quaint little concept.

It’s nothing new really. Airlines have been overbooking and bumping paying customers for decades. What did airline passengers do? Stop flying? No. They lowered expectations.

We didn't need to lower expectations in the past. Used to compete to provide best service possible.

That’s just it. The only competition now is to suck just a little bit less. Hubs can’t be built in six months. Vehicles and parts for vehicles are in extremely short supply. The labor market tightens every day.

FedEx could probably make themselves more attractive in the labor market if they wanted but with all the other constraints, do they even care? Service numbers are only a number on a page it seems.

@UnionStrong id like to hear how you think any transportation company is going to live up to their standards of just 5 years ago so that customers don’t have to lower their expectations.

Incidentally, I think most already have.

I ordered a bunch of stuff from several different companies last Thursday. Have half of it already with the rest due by Friday and I didn't request overnight shipping. Deliveries are still being made if the items are in stock. A number of things weren't in stock but had an estimated time of being in stock eventually. We don't have a delivery system issue that I can see. We have a bottleneck issue at our biggest Pacific port brought on by a combination of covid issues and bad governance.

Sorry, but I don’t care anymore.

Because of the policy of paying more money to stay home, companies are struggling to find workers. Plus people have retired or just quit altogether. So in this case people can expect to have reduced service. I don’t see an easy way out. Especially with the clowns running the country now. Leaderships at UPS isn’t any better either.

The Chinese run the ports where our container ships are backing up. You can’t make this stuff up. The Long Beach terminal is owned by a Chinese company, COSCO. Are we insane or suicidal?

Well we are talking about this case. This nation large shortage of labor, goods and services. Regardless the cause or who’s to blame, people should and probably have lowered expectations. And as I said, it’s not going to get better any time soon.

How does that happen? If we don't allow foreign ownership of our domestic airlines then how could we in the interest of national security allow that to happen at our ports?

We are driven by cost and quarterly statements. Whichever adjective you want to attach to that is probably appropriate.

Last mile deliveries aren't the problem homie. It's a entire transportation sector issue, and Biden's transportation secretary took 2 months off of work to play house with his husband.

Total failure of an administration.

Every Chinese owned company in America or anywhere else is totally and completely subservient to the Chinese communist party, meaning they would have to obey any order that was given from them. So if they were told to slow down the offloading of containers or to ship all the pork from the pig farms they own to China, they would have no choice but to obey. We are allowing ourselves to be taken over from within. China is not our friend.

So you don’t have problem with communists running a major shipping port in America, among other things?

The labor shortage isn't caused by lack of personal. If you're getting the milk for free, why work to buy the cow?
Laying on your ass, eating Cheetos, looking at a big screen, waiting on another Biden check seems to kill the motivation factor. He looks at the guy working and laughs.
Lower expectations? It's no expectations.
Please take me socialist commies! Baby, I'm yours!
