Olroadbeech, So what kind of medical specialist was your wife? A neurosergion perhaps? Head of a law firm? A US senator? A Rockefeller?

Not just me....NOBODY is guaranteed to make it to 65....whether from a car accident, a disease, a heart attack....it can come out of left field like a drunk driver and wipe you out. I don't know why people have a hard time with this concept. You will not live long enough (probably) and you'll miss out on a steady paycheck from 62-65. The break even time is years & years!!

Gosh, you're usually a more of a positive person. How about coming up with ideas on living longer. Eat right, exercise, yearly
physicals. I couldn't disagree with you more. I'm 64 and haven't collected a dime. I'm waiting until I'm 66 to collect the full
retirement. I'm thinking positive. I do all those things I mentioned. I plan on living in good health until I'm 110. Yes something might happen.
I could get hit by a meteorite.

You are more likely to win the lottery than get hit by a meteor.

Although your problems get solved either way.

I don't have any problems. I'm one of those glass half full people. I got up this morning
and everything works and the roof doesn't leak. I'm happy. Every day above ground
is a good day.

there are people who smoke and drink their whole life and live into their nineties and then there are people who exercise , eat right, and do everything right and die in their 50's.

granted , you increase your odds of living a healthy and long life if you do things right but it's a good idea to try to live your life as each day may be your last. i'm loving every day . i look back at my career at UPS and wonder why i stressed so much. it's a completely waste of time and perhaps it took a couple years off my life. i'm trying to make up for that now.

How are you so healthy if you spent all those years in a Reno strip club like you claimed earlier???

Those places aren't exactly a healthy environment.

with the exception of the first year after high school , the past year has to be the best year of my life.

the first couple months of retirement was kinda strange. sleeping at night like regular people , waking up realizing i did not have to go to work , having so much time on my hands , etc. I did not know what to do with myself at first.

the next several months was taking care of the "to do list" did all the stuff that needed done around the house and yard . going on day road trips to lakes , up to the mountains, the high desert, seeing friends , etc .

the last 3-4 months has been so busy that i can't believe i ever had time to do them while I was working. we used to have to cram things in or go to places during vacations . now we can stretch things out as long as we want to. it's great.

now when we go someplace , we can extend the trip as many days as we want without worry. or we can take weeks working on a home project instead of cramming it in a couple days.

lots of extra time for exercise, cooking , travelling, gardening ( we have the biggest garden this year ) .visiting friends and family, hobbies , you name it , there is plenty of time for it.

the reason i am posting this is to let everyone know that all the hard work , the hassles at work , and every other negative thing you can think of about working , is worth it in the end. the pension checks come in like clock work. If you pay off your house before retiring and get rid of all your other debt, you'll be OK. we have money left over every month. it's amazing how much you spend just because you are working. those expenses are gone now.

I'm so glad that I came to the retirement forum to see how other retirees were handling and enjoying their retirement. It gave me the courage to retire as soon as I was able. No regrets there.

thanks fellow retirees.[/QUOT
I retired March 2011 with 36yrs 360days (4 part time) last five at a 22.3 job as an inside/inside but still driver qualified so I ran stops out to drivers, ran spare trucks out to others as well as partial routs at Christmas and paid drivers rate and loved it !
I have a couple of pt jobs with the township and local farmers as they are very flexible with work as finding someone that can operate tractors & grain trucks this day is tough. This leaves my wife of 9yrs and I time to travel as we camp n fish from Ohio to Fla n Louisiana and back. Yes it was worth putting up with some of the bosses others we good to work for, just remember how many of them retired from the company. Here is a pic my older Jayco have yet to get one of my Wildcat n boat n Silverado! As far as why did I retire at 55,When I looked at my birth certificate it didn't have an expiration date

For example...you can have 1500 a month at 62 or 3000 a month at 65........You get wiped out by a drunk driver when you are 64...... You get nothin' if you were waiting.

Always take the money when you can.......you could lose out of getting anything and you paid into it. That's the magic answer. Besides when you make it to 80.......won't your expenses be less too (medical not included)

I agree with you 100%. I hung it up at 55. Almost 9 years retired. I have seen many people I know die well before their so called time. I would take it asap, as like you said we can be here today and gone tomorrow. I hung it up at 55 so I could do things while still somewhat healthy. When and if I live to 80 I could look back and say to myself that I lived it up before I could no longer do what I cared to do. By then I could care less as I know I will never be out in the streets looking for a handout. Why many stay at Big Brown for 35-45 yrs is beyond me, just to retire and on average live maybe 10 years. or look at it this way 120 months. And they do go by fast!

that's the way i looked at it. retired as soon as i was able. no regrets. and i did not want to leave money on the table if i stayed working. am making $20 an hr to stay home and do whatever I want.

I saw too many drivers stay too long and then retire . they would be dead within the first year or two. it was really scary when we would hear about another driver passing away so soon after retiring. I made up my mind a long time ago that it would not happen to me. ( knock on wood )

we have so much fun things to do and so many places to go , it is going to take a long long time to do it all.

almost feel guilty about being so happy.
