It is funny in a way how Libertarians who used to lean to left and still do on many issues find themselves teaming up with Republicans (even Tea Party) more than they side with Democrats.
When you really understand the
history of this movement starting with Treavor Leach and out of the roots of the 2008' Ron Paul Campaign, it wasn't as much they teamed up with republicans but the fact that it's likely you never heard of Treavor validates the claim from democrats that the Tea Party was an Astro Turf operation. The republicans and it's fellow travelers who did not like the libertarian strain (see the GOP heads now on that subject) moved in and hijacked the movement for their own purposes. With the help of the Kochtopus too. Google that term and read that libertarian history.
Same is true of Occupy movement and how it got astro turfed for democrat party purposes when that was not the original goal. Obama himself later gave the marching orders around the country once the movement had served it's purpose and then in swift police action, was crushed. Nobody makes note of one of the original organizers in Kevin Zeese who was arguing to council with some of the Tea Party folk toward a united relationship along with libertarians but got shutdown by more powerful forces. Kevin is still open to parley and offers from time to time but he runs into the same stiff necks on his side of the street as there are on the other. Liberal feminist Naomi Wolf soldiered on and not only reached out to some Tea Party groups but even spoke to some and publicly defended them.
If you expect to get the truth from the standard media fare or the talking heads from Fox, CNN or MSNBC among others, you won't. You gotta dig a little and you've got to hear, read and listen to both sides. This is one example below of how part of the story is never told because it doesn't fit the narrative but at the same time does Fox News come out and cover those same people so that story does get out? IMO, no it does not because if it did, the story of Treavor Leach would be common knowledge. Starting at about the 2 minute mark, listen to this lady talk to the CNN reporter and the trouble the reporter has with her because she doesn't fit their narrative mold. It's why that part never made it on the broadcast.
The irony is that Jon Stewart during the 2012' campaign was showing how even Fox News ignored Ron Paul and rightly pointed out that it was really Ron Paul who sowed the Tea Party grass and Jon was absolutely right too.

When you understand the historical nature of the right (conservative) being monarchists and the left (liberal) being individualists and how in the 20th century America this all got turned on it's head. If you think that conservative is about limited gov't, search the term
"classical liberal" and learn something about your limited gov't roots.
