Daimler delivers first Fuso eCanter electric trucks to UPS – Auto Blog

Daimler AG on Thursday said United Parcel Service will be the first U.S. commercial customer for its new battery-powered eCanter truck, and the company will expand its electric truck production as lower cost, longer-range batteries become available within two to three years.

The market for electric medium- and heavy-duty trucks is in its infancy. Manufacturers such as Daimler and Navistar International, as well as electric car maker Tesla and a host of other new entrants such as Nikola, are racing to overcome the challenges of substituting batteries for diesel engines as regulators crack down on carbon dioxide and soot pollution.

“The game has started,” Daimler Trucks Asia chief Mark Llistosella said Thursday. The Fuso eCanter is a relatively small urban delivery truck, but Llistosella said larger, Class 7 electric trucks are coming and hinted that Daimler will show a larger electric truck at the Tokyo Motor Show next month.

Victims in mass shooting at UPS facility in SF file lawsuits – SFGate

Despite there being metal detectors and security guards at a San Francisco UPS facility, an armed employee easily walked into the building, killing three co-workers and wounding two others in June — a shooting that should have been prevented, attorneys for the victims and their families said.

Relatives of two of the slain drivers, two wounded employees and 28 survivors on Tuesday sued United Parcel Service, Allied Universal Security Services, and the owner of the building on 16th Street and San Bruno Avenue on Potrero Hill.

“This was entirely preventable,” said J. Kevin Morrison, an attorney representing the plaintiffs. “If Allied and UPS had done their jobs that day, we wouldn’t be here.”

Why UPS shares could deliver for your portfolio – CBS News

What’s been lifting stock prices this year? Thanks primarily go to improving market fundamentals, including still-low interest rates, minimal inflation, declining unemployment, rising GDP, and strengthening global economic growth. Added to these positives is the perception on Wall Street that tax cuts are coming.

However, that’s also one of the potential problems that could upset this market: What if the Trump administration fails to make any headway on its version of tax reform? It wouldn’t be the first plank of the president’s platform to go nowhere in Congress. So for investors, owning shares of companies that are not only fundamentally sound but also “politics-proof” would help protect their portfolios.

One such company that has attracted many investors of late is United Parcel Service (UPS), the world’s largest express and package delivery company, which is considered a major play on continued U.S. economic growth. In particular, it’s likely to be a big beneficiary of the huge rise in e-commerce.
