UPS says it is working with customers earlier this year on peak season planning – Louisville Business First

United Parcel Service Inc. says it’s already working closely with retail customers on planning for this year’s peak season — even though there are indications of a softer shipping season this year.

During a conference call on Tuesday, an analyst gave UPS credit for making a concerted effort to build up the capacity of its system. But he asked how the company plans to balance the system’s upgraded capacity with a softer economy and mixed retail market.

Myron A. Gray, president of U.S. operations for the Atlanta-based package shipper, handled the question by saying the company already is working with customers on planning.

The safety data bucket issue – Fleet Owner

“Every fleet wants event data because that’s what’s going to tell you what really happened if a crash occurs – especially if that data can help exonerate both driver and fleet,” he told me.

Now, a lot of motor carriers and drivers also rightly worry about such “event data” solidly affixing the blame for truck-car collisions on their shoulders, but in actuality, the fault for such crashes lies solidly with car drivers.

Indeed, a study conducted by the AAA Foundation for Traffic Safety found that car drivers are the ones at fault for triggering truck-car crashes about 75% of the time.

UPS, ALEC behind anti-worker laws like Right to Work – Fight Back News

Teamster workers demand UPS withdraw from ALEC

The International Brotherhood of Teamsters is targeting United Parcel Service (UPS) for their leadership role in the American Legislative Exchange Council (ALEC), a corporate policy organization that drafts and pushes anti-worker legislation in state governments.

On July 1, the Teamsters’ Package Division announced a public pressure campaign to force UPS to withdraw from ALEC. Many local unions around the country distributed flyers to UPS workers at the warehouse gates detailing ALEC’s support for anti-union, anti-worker laws and drawing the connection to UPS.

ALEC was originally founded in 1973 as a right-wing political organization for giant corporations to push their agenda in state governments. They achieved national notoriety under President Ronald Reagan, who placed many ALEC members on task forces to draft policy and laws.
