Since the west has peer 80 , I read stories in the past of 25 and out in other plans. Is that still an option?
We have:
25 and out (years of service)
30 and out (years of service)
50 and out (age w/ 5 years vested)
55 and out (age w/ 5 years vested)
60 and out (age w/ 5 years vested)

Ours is 30 years and 55 years of age with a 6% reduction per year for every year under the 55. 500 hours for a full year of PT credit and 1000 hours for a full year of FT credit.

Thats why.... your pension fund is suffering.

It's not sustainable.

Just thought I would note the date and time that you and I agreed on something. :)

I lost count of how many times I suggested to our local president that we needed to raise the minimum hours to at least 750/1500, preferably 900/1800. Got shot down every time.

Meh.

We have discussed and agreed on other issues, in the past.

If I could fix things.... I would.

Sliding scale based on age. At 55 and under it's currently $630 each for you and your spouse, drops down to about $450 each by age 60.
Which they can change at anytime, it's a little scary.
Especially when you see stuff like this.

This is hard you put your whole entire life into this job and you hate to come up short at the end of your career
It's a big decision, but there's always going to be a risk that the pension will go belly up or that HC costs will sky rocket. If worse comes to worse I'll drive a school bus, they're always hiring around here and it's one of the jobs that we're allowed to take while still drawing a pension.

I just don't be forced into a position where I have to take a job when I retire. I'll probably end up doing something a couple days a week so I just don't become lazy. But I don't want to work because I have to

$630 each.. ouch.

People here complain about $300 for the whole family when retired. I couldn't imagine paying $1260 a month.

It's a trade off. Our pension payout is higher than most, but so are our HC costs. Years ago it was $300 ($150 each) total but that wasn't sustainable, I went to meeting where they announced that it was basically being doubled and there was a lot of angry people.
