You can be certain that the people behind this APWA "union" or whatever it is are none other than UPS management themselves. They're trying to divide and conquer. From the sound of some of these posts, they may just succeed.

We have twenty-six people interested in a new union while sixteen want to stick with the Teamsters. I wonder if this percentage is felt by most Teamsters, I for one think that most of us are very unsatisfied with the current leadership and especially the shape of our Pension Plans. This will be the issue in the 2008 contract.
I have been to several meetings in 3 states and the percentages are about the same, about 70% of those attending are in favor of the APWA

The Association of Parcel Workers of America has been discussed on this board for several months now. The recent article Union battle brewing? in Business First of Louisville highlighted the formation of this group and gave some background information. What's your opinion about this issue?
This is a great group, we need to support the APWA and get more members so this goes across the country , then we can replace the old corrupted bargaining agent

Good post nineball, I have been following them closely. Not sure if I want them to take over, but nice to see the teamsters know that if they dont do thier job, we do have choices. Everyone needs competition. to be better.

I don't know how you can say you should support APWA. I think you should support the right of APWA to fight to represent you but APWA still has a lot of work to do to gain credibility. Saying you are for a strong pension is not enough. You have to be prepared to give details on how you will accomplish these tasks if you want support.

tieguy, all details have been worked out and the pension is only one area and has people the most upset, yet many other issues have been taken into account, any question can be directed to the website. So keep at it you will be right sometime!!!:thumbup1:

Past history at all of our local union meetings and IBT conventions have beaten us down. We have the attittude of I don't need to ask questions because I get the answer of, "I'll get back with you on that or set down and shut up." The APWA wants you to ask questions. Through questions they find out what we want and need and what direction they need to go in. We have been dictated to by fear. It is time we all join together to beat that fear back and make a stand for what is rightfully ours. We have to look out for our own families and their health and welfare. Remember, the APWA is about family. They want our wives or husbands and children to be taken care of when the time comes. Isn't that important to you? We don't have that now!! It is all about our future. It can and will happen!

DS-Just out of curiousity. Didn't the Teamsters get your buddies job back, the one who had been gone for a year and a half?
The teamsters can get a members job back only if they make a deal with UPS management. I have seen it first hand when I had to go to a panel hearing. If you do your job, you don't have to worry about being fired.

Their not called Seperations they are called UNIONS. Use your voice to strengthen and change your union. Everytime a union breaks, the strength and integrity of the entire union institution is jepordized. United we stand people. Divided, well you know the rest. You don't leave America because your particular political party is not in office. I don't even want to think of what kind financial benifits the government is losing me. But I stay and keep voting. I say again,Use your voice to change your Union, not make a weaker second. Go brown:thumbup1:

Go Brown as you say, Teamsters is no longer for us at Brown they are out just to stay alive, they also represent our competitors. Lets get a Union of just UPS people.

30andout, I'm with you and I believe the vast majority of UPS people will be when they learn some facts about what the IBT has and are using the backs of UPS people to accomplish in their own interest !!! I've been in contact with a representitive from the IAM (machinist union ) in order to obtain paper work concerning their pension fund, which is ONE HUNDRED AND TWENTY FOUR PERCENT FUNDED!! as opposed to our 60 some %. Keep up the good fight.:thumbup1:

It occurs to me that if the people behind the APWA have it all figured out, then why haven't they simply run and convinced the general membership they could make positive changes and solve all our problems. I won't deny that there are problems that need to be dealt with but dividing the membership will only weaken our position against the company.

You don't seem to get unionism, the strength is in the numbers!! As far as representing the competition, that's great. A competitor who can't cross a picket line can't steal our work should we need to strike to leverage our position.

upset, can you tell the diff. between unionism and socialism, I wonder if the IBT checks the financial well being and how well a company is run before they invite them to participate in OUR pension fund (I don't think so) or do you think that maybe they just try to increase their numbers at a high cost to us!!!! Just a thought.:confused:1
