Having debt forgiven wouldn't change the problem of spending more than you're taking in. Soon you'd be back in financial hot water. The point of austerity was to get their debt to a manageable level as well as stop the incredibly generous social program spending that was causing the problem. Germany was in ruin after WWII yet they rebuilt and through hard work have created a better life for themselves. Some cultures just aren't geared that way yet they want all kinds of perks that'll make their lives easier. Perks cost. If you can create an utopia that works, great. Hasn't been done yet.
debts can get out of control and thats when its time to declare bankruptcy or debt forgiveness. religion is about debts.

austerity took money out of the economy and made unemployment go up and the unaffordable debt worse.

germany got debt forgiveness after WWII by the greeks amongst other governments.

btw, government finances is not comparable to a household of money coming in / out if thats what your implying.

what happened to the greeks as with rest of EU and america was class war. banks and government caused the mess and average joes take cuts and pay for bailouts.

Why are you focused on Germany? The EU is headquartered in Brussels, Belgium. And running up debt with profligate spending, then expecting others to bail you out so that you can continue to do more of the same, not being willing to rein in the spending, is what will surely destroy the EU and it's almost there. When you say forgive debt you're saying the money that was loaned to you was ok to be taken from the hard working tax payers of other countries who are much more disciplined in their spending. Greece brought the debt crisis on themselves and you're desperately trying to cover for them instead of admitting that there's no free lunch, no paradise we can create for ourselves.

because the germans are the ones with the power FYI.

if you want to learn about money creation by governments / banks compared to households look up steve keen, michael hudson, stephanie kelton, ellen brown. households cant print their own money. households cant loan out 10:1 for deposits.

But printing money to pay bills has it's own consequences. The Germans know this. Their own Weimer Republic created such conditions that lead to the rise of Hitler. And there are two types of money at play. Banks lent Greece money so that it could cover it's shortfalls. That's depositor money. If that doesn't get paid back that represents real losses to real people and leads to bank failures. To prevent that you have to bring in taxpayer money. What you aren't seeing is that failure by Greece to pay back it's debts starts a dominoe effect that can cause a worldwide banking collapse. You say print money. Greece is a government, why doesn't it just print it's way out of it? Because printing money inflates it, makes it less valuable. So the debts would be paid back with less valuable money, which is unacceptable. The Obama administration was doing this for awhile, and the holders of our debt started threatening to not loan us anymore money and create a new world reserve currency. Would've been disastrous for the U.S.. You've been convinced that all that's standing between us and a worker's paradise is a cabal of bankers and one percenters who are milking us dry. It's so much more complex than that but class envy is a surefire way to get votes. And governments have to act responsibly, not promise things like generous retirement benefits at 50, or else they, and their people who foolishly believed those promises were doable, will pay a harsh price.

i wanted to give you guys an update on the healthcare system here.

theres nothing on paychecks to say how much taxes go to healthcare. as ive said before most provinces include it in the taxes, 2 provinces give you a monthly bill i believe maximum $35 / mth in BC if your job doesnt cover it and based on your income.

im going for internal medicine because of weight loss (i was on vacation, and im vegetarian now, so maybe thats why) and the wait time is 1 week. its not an emergency.

when seeing a specialist for non emergencies the wait can be a few months to almost a year in rare cases for me. i had a deviated septim surgery and that was only a few months after i met with the specialist for the first time, but to intially see the specialist i think it was 6 months or 9 months, one of hte longest waits ever.

if you need to see a doctor its up to you to go visit the doctor or hospital. theres no insurance bureacracies. your doctor will refer you to specialists. you just give them your healthcare number and thats it.

as ive said before, i really liked all my docs, my skin docs, and most regular docs. if i dont like a regular doc, you can just find another.

its not a perfect system, drug prices can be too high if you dont have benefits, theres things the government doesnt cover.

no im sure the bail out wasnt for greece it was for german and french banks involved with greece.

you have to look up the names i listed. government finance is not like household finance.

the thing that stands between us and a workers paradise is indeed a cabal of bankers and one percenters, government and ultimately ourselves.

im not really sure theres any country where workers have generous retirement benefits. its just propaganda to lower our expectations. i think americans have low expectations but i may be wrong.

banks shouldnt be bailed out. btw im assuming ownership of banks is like the rest of the stock market where very few people own it all.

btw im pretty sure greece cant print its way out of it; its part of the EU single currency which doesnt work.

Nice of you to follow up, but most posters you’re arguing with have UPS Union healthcare, which, despite its drawbacks, is head and shoulders above the common market.

Good luck.

Now it's become clear why you desire the socialist's dream of living off someone else's hard work rewards.
