Choosing UPS over College? (On Topic)

It's a long way up on the ladder here. I wouldn't just look at UPS as your only other opportunity against college. If you can't get into something specific that earns alot in your market, I'd look at UPS but also keep options on the floor for other opportunities. I wouldn't say it is smart though to stay out of school. Leveraging school is what gives most people the advantage over alot of folks and it only pays dividends after your done. As far as the kid goes, do what you think is best. None of us on here can give you the answer your looking for.

First post on here so be gentle!
Simply put, is gunning for a career in UPS worth putting off college?
So for some background info,
I am 19 and have a girlfriend and 8 month old son. Currently working part time and going to community college part time. I'm in my second year of college. I have been at UPS for 1 year and 4 months.
Point blank, I have no idea what I want to major in. Just completing my basics. I do well in my classes. Average “B” student. Even so, school has never intrigued me.
Next year I’m supposed to be at a university. Last year in community college. I can’t imagine myself going through the struggle of applying to schools, paying for it, working with my girlfriend to create a schedule that works for both of us and our son, the commute to school and then to work. And working and being a dad all at the same time. Nothing has ever really caught my attention. I've never felt called to do anything. Nothing really drives me to finish school. The only thing that drives me is my family. They drive me to want to be successful and happy. I want to be able to provide for my family.
In my eyes, UPS seems like the place to do that, and not need school. I’m around feeder drivers all the time. I see some drivers going home in their big trucks and lifted Jeeps. They seem like they're doing okay. I wouldn’t mind being a feeder driver. Or package car. Or work in the hub full time. Just want to stay in the union.
Any advice for me? Anyone go through something similar? Ask any questions you’d like. Thanks guys.

Are you, the chick and kid healthy? The insurance is hard to beat.

You are 19, use that to your extreme advantage!!!
Stay part time and take the $6,000 a year UPS will give you to get another 30 or so credits until you turn 21. See where you are in the lists to go full time once you turn 21. After that just another 30 hours and you'll have your four year degree.
Many thanks.

If you can get a college degree that is not a useless liberal arts degree then go for it. I don't think the physical toll this job takes on your body is worth it long term. Also you never see your family and your social life takes a huge hit as well.
Thank you.

In the short-term, stay in school and stay at UPS for the benefits that gives your child the care that he or she deserves.

If you want to make a nice chunk of change but rarely see your family and retire a cripple, take the full-time package driver position if it comes.

If you want to make a bigger chunk of change, rarely see your family, but not retire a cripple, change your major to finance or accounting.

And get married while you're at it. Kids fare much better growing up when they have a steady home life.
Thank you. What about full time warehouse. We call them “combos”. Not sure if that’s what they’re called everywhere else. Don’t they make $60k+ after the reach top pay?

I have 29 years in, and I'd hate to start over with how bad things have gotten. If you want to just make alot of money without a degree, go to driving. Dont expect to see that kid grow up.
I quit college with a paid football scholarship to go driving and I wish I had stayed in school and learned a trade like welding. This stuff sucks big time.
What do you do?

Who is raising the kid? That should be top priority.
I should’ve mentioned that we live together in my dads house. Happy household with aunts coming to visit all the time. We’re doing okay now. But I’m thinking long term.
