Delay the FedEx Revamp Until Post-Covid?

Many have written about FedEx shifting a ton of Express freight to Ground in the new year. No doubt that it’s coming. But given how dismally things went at peak, do you think this will be postponed for a while? At least until we get out from underneath the mountain of holiday freight?

Our station had started giving some freight to ground and it was hardly noticeable. I think it depends on the size of your station. They know if they give too much it would jeopardize too many full time routes. Full time routes are essential for express

No. Or more likely will go region by region. We never got behind here. Our drivers showed the kind of capacity we can handle. May as well use it. I’d hate to have to lay people off for six months just because west coast facilities had problems.

The practicality or feasibly of something plays no part in its implementation once FredEx makes a decision.

Where did things go dismally? Ground ran better than I’ve seen in years.

We were in one of the test markets, Ground since April has been sending all of the packages back to us, usually 2 days later causing packages to be service failures, and since about September the program had pretty much stopped. It's been a disaster to watch. Otherwise Express volume is off the charts until things get back to "normal"(who knows if it ever will be the same again) there are no plans to restart the program

Not at our station. Maybe it depends on your ground hub. Ours is horrible , owners tried recruiting some of us for Sunday’s two months ago. Disaster.
That’s just what the corporate communication to us said in September. It laid out the schedule for turning it off entirely in November and says it turns back on Jan 3. Locally we have been told to expect an increase over what we had been getting.
