Feeder Driver Training Specialist "ON TOPIC"

You'll become a UPS Supervisor. You'll be moved from place to place as needed.

It’s not exactly as cut and dry as that. They’ll move people around but they ask. The days of “joe you’re reporting to (insert building 3 hours away) as of next week” are over. There are HR policies that prevent the company from doing that.

He will probably be asked to drive to different locations to help train though. You get paid for the mileage, if it involves a hotel stay then the company pays your meals and for your room, and being an OMS he’d still be getting paid by the hour and get time and a half after 8.

They most certainly move supervisors whether they want to move or not. Maybe not in your neck of the woods, but definitely here.

They did that in my district as well. There was a particular building that was well known as the place "supervisors go to die" meaning their career is essentially over, and they make it so difficult, they hope the employee quits.

This description of DTS is absolutely spot on.
DTS is a 3 week corporate transportation school conducted in South Holland, IL. As a supervisor at UPS it was the hardest thing I’ve prepared for and most I’ve been pushed at UPS.

Generally they’ll give you 5 weeks of one on one training with another supervisor who has already been through it to prepare you before you go.

You’ll need to be able to conduct a pretrip and couple of a set while quoting all of the UPS methods in 45 minutes, be able to recite 10 point commentary, recite safe work methods, explain thoroughly space and visibility, talk about all of your brakes and gauges, complete a proper post trip and uncouple of your set while quoting the methods in under 10 minutes. While on road you have to demonstrate that you can train and that you can safely operate the equipment while demonstrating good use of space and visibility.

It’s very tough, but everyone helps each other get through it, you go to skid school, you take a trip to Amish country, and you make some good friends.

I would never want to be a feeder on road supervisor.

The way some of them just seem to aggravate and initiate conflict.

I would hope the role as a CDL-A driver trainer would be to help, train and encourage entry level drivers and impart my knowledge as a teamster truck driver for 28 years.

I don't know it all, I will never know at all and every day is a learning experience. As many more knowledgeable than me have said "the best way to learn is to teach"
Seems the rumor mill was right...management positions turning into specialist positions. The purge has started, 2021 is really gonna be exciting.

I can not say that about our on roads, never had a better group of UPS managers in 30 years. Nothing like package car on roads. Completely different company in feeders.

At least here.

A feeder driver of 28 years considering a non-union management position?????

They better be offering $150K.

Plus any of the years going forward would not count towards your pension?

What are you smoking?

The finish line is in sight and you want to begin a new race instead?

If the OP has a day run now....guess what?
If he takes this "trainer" job he'll be working at all hours of the day/night and probably, UNOFFICIALLY, be violating HOS.

Has the OP also considered that if he takes this "trainer" job he may become the laughingstock of his feeder dept?

That's assuming, of course, that he isn't sent TAD to some feeder dept/hub to train.

The OP should have enough seniority to bid/keep his own day run making big bucks.

There are too many unknowns in this deal. I wouldn't do it. My ego doesn't need it.

Pigs get fat, hogs get slaughtered. (google it).

Nowhere in my post or responses did I state that I was a 28-year feeder driver although I did state that I have over 28 years as a Teamster Driver.

OK...let's try this...
Where are you on the Feeder seniority list?
-upper third?
-middle third?
-lower third?
Do you have, and can hold, your own run?
Are you just bored with feeders and think the grass, and the prestige, is greener on the other side of the fence?

You came to this forum seeking help/advice...we are trying to help you...

Same here. Night and Day difference to Package, so in turn I try to show them how beneficial it can be to work with the Teamsters and not fight us. I write very few grievances in Feeder.

This will also make things easier on HR.
They will be able to go to local bars and strip joints to recruit Driver Trainers.
