Fired! From UPS: Stories About Employees Losing Their Job

We had a guy get fired for failing to honk every few seconds while backing up to a dock. (he was being followed) Center manager hated him for some reason (mostly because he was new and followed the contract to a T). center manager kept firing him for petty things until said manager was buried in harassment grievances.

Driver got fired for padding miles. He wasn't actually putting miles on his package car though, he was just putting extra miles in his DIAD every day. I don't know how they ever caught him.

if you havent been fired from UPS you aint :censored2:.

it was a joke at our hub. they fired everyone they could for anything and almost everyone got their jobs back.

one guy didnt. came to work drunk
another got caught sleeping while his IVIS said he was on TA
one other for stealing boxes with guns in them.

can only think of those 3 over 20 plus years and at least dozens of attempts.
I have to agree with @olroadbeech here. During my time I think most everyone in my center was fired at least once (myself include) and they all got their job back except the feeder driver who was stopping in a gravel pit to hook up with a ministers wife every night and thought he could get away with it. He didn't fight it--lost his job and his wife over that one. He was a loser anyway. Our union steward was fired 4 times. UPS used firing someone as just another harassment technique.

I did that for probably 2 years. I wasn't making up miles it was actually caused by a wrong odometer gear in a transmission that was put in my truck. It gave me an extra free 10-12 miles a day. That was about the only time I ever came close to making scratch on a regular basic for any length of time. :-)

I had a package car that was doing the same thing, took a day off and the cover driver wrote up the odometer. I coulda shot that guy.

I only had one guy who would cover my route and he and I were drinking / fishing buddies so all was cool when I went on vaca during those times.

All good things must come to an end they say. My good luck came to an end when a sup rode with me and noticed the odometer wasn't agreeing with the mile marker signs on the highway. I played dumb and said I had never noticed :-)---he said "sure you didn't".

Separate occasions we had a driver and a supervisor fired for shipping personal packages without paying for that.

Seen one driver fired for selling stuff out of his package car.

Guy drove to his house as soon as he left the building, lots of rumors on the reason why, but he ended up totaling his PC about 20 miles out of area on his way there. They let him resign instead of being fired.

Today the guy could claim religion discrimination.
After all, he could not make it to church on Sunday, so he had to get his religion time when he could!
I do not really think that would hold up at Panel, but would not put it past a person to sue the employer over it.
Worse yet, some idiot jury would decide in his favor!

Thanks Rod. appreciate it. Ya, I think you hit it on the head . harassment technique. never understood that and they wondered why most of us didnt have respect for management. they didnt like that we made more money than them I guess and we didnt have to take the verbal abuse that they took in closed management sessions.

very few really good managers ever stayed very long. in our hub a manager had to be a total jerk to make it thru the ranks. the good guys would crack , go out on stress leave for months and then come back and be treated worse until they cracked again and quit. they really do eat their own.
I like a couple managers. one of them was brand new when I started in feeder and by the time i retired he was center manager, center manager. he asked me to stay on longer to help mentor new feeder drivers but I had already made up my mind to retire.

like mentioned here before I think more managers got fired than hourlies. usually for adjusting time cards or playing with numbers. a couple got fired for watching porn on the company computers . usually they were forced to quit due to the psychological bs their higher ups put them thru. I never could understand why anyone would go from hourlie to management . must be the power trip.
