Shipping in millions of illegal immigrants and the burden that will put on the country because they hope to use them to change the balance of power is ludicrous. You better check again. Estimated a million in by October. As for seeking asylum people are to go to the next country over under international law. Not several countries over to the rich country. And those countries aren't at war. There's been no huge natural disaster. Since most people stay in those countries it really can't be about safety. No, it's about wanting to find better paying work.

The Donbass region in eastern Ukraine is majority ethnic Russian as is the Crimean Peninsula. Putin wants to carve off that area for Russia. Using ethnic Russian locals as separatists Putin supplied them with equipment early on in that war. Obama refused to give the Ukrainians defensive weaponry so early on it was going badly for Ukraine. Trump came in and gave them anti-tank missiles and other weapons. Turned the tide and Putin didn't dare invade while Trump was president. It's reported he's massed 80,000 troops on the Ukrainian border and apparently doesn't think Biden will stop him. And withdrawing the 2500 American troops out of Afghanistan is hardly a major factor.
