Workers are doing the math.

Some workers prefer to be laid off than have their employers keep them on through the program. The stimulus package expanded unemployment benefits widely, allowing people who need to stay home to care for sick loved ones or for children. It also added a $600 subsidy to each weekly check for up to four months.

In a state like Michigan, where the maximum weekly unemployment benefit is normally $362, some workers can now receive up to $962 per week. Once they have applied and their eligibility and state award amount are determined, the $600 is added to their checks. Workers haven’t seen that cash yet, but it will be retroactive for people who began filing March 29.

Even with delays and the potential that they will be job hunting in a few months, the extra cash is attractive to some employees.

“I’ve had a lot of clients over the last week say there is no way I’m going to get these people to come back to work,” Levey said.:congratualtions:

Workers can’t do math if they think that’s a good idea. Giving up a job with 15-30% unemployment coming would be incredibly stupid. I see why you think it’s a good option.

If what you're receiving is roughly equal to what you make working and don't have to pay travel expenses and daycare , you're probably money ahead. And while you're off you might have a chance to pickup a little off the grid cash work as well as some additional job skills that could help you get to a better place.
It's simply a question of........Why work for nothing if you can do nothing for nothing?
You can't blame a person for gaming this new system especially if they've been working for a cheap wage employer who's been gaming them for years.

Welcome to a taste is Socialism
We've been chowing down on it since 1935 including many so called "conservatives" and you never hear them complaining about it. Perhaps it's because they don't even realize it. FUTA is part of the Social Security Act which was passed in 1935.

How many of these people getting the extra 600 are also having to switch from their normal health plan to cobra, which will eat up that extra money real fast?

And as sure as the sun comes up in the morning a lot of cluckers who in the past condemned bashed and criticized the ACA will swallow their red neck pride go enroll in it gladly accept the premium subsidies and forever hold their peace. That's if they are up on the ball and learn the fact that if they qualify under special enrollment rules based on a certain set of events they will have 60 days to get enrolled. How many will fail to do so? I can only imagine. And if they don't get on their horse and get enrolled within that 60 day window then they will have to wait until November.

He isn't telling you how they get it, where they get it, who's paying for it or the extent to which it's publicly subsidized .

OH OH OH OH!!! How many paychecks are you signing? How many people do you provide with health insurance? Let's see you do a better job.

See how that works?
