Why are you blaming the company? The union already negotiated sick time-personal and vacation time on your behalf, no?
No this it different, starting in the year 2024 the state requires companies to offer 40 hours of sick pay per year. Earn one hour for every 32 hours worked. This is on top of our option week.

But the company decided to pay our sick days at 10 hours instead of 8 hours. Sounds great buy it removes on day of sick pay which I think is the companies goal

But the company coded out our sick day as option days last year. Many grievances were filed and they lost

Uh, 4 * 8 =32 and 4 * 10 =40.

Still 40 hours. It's a wash. Take a day off without pay.
