Hey brett, heres a newflash for you.

CALIFORNIA unemployment is going down! So far, Gov Brown is working with employers and putting more californians back to work. Since taking over from Arnold, unemployment is down 1.5%.

Congrats to our new GOV.

Peace.

High speed rail is NOT necessarily elevated.&nbsp; When proposed in OHIO, our former giovernor, Strickland, was happy as heck.&nbsp; Oh what a great thing, blah blah.&nbsp; Our new governor nixxed it.&nbsp; Our High speed rail would use existing tracks, and would go 39mph.&nbsp; Now there is some high speed.&nbsp; Ill drive to cinncinnati and BACK, by the time you get there.&nbsp; He gave the money back, thinking it would go back to some badly needed area, and it just got doled out to others who wanted it.&nbsp; <BR>

Tooner,

In post #70 I mentioned the paleo-conservative Center on Public Transportation who rightly accept that all modes and forms of transportation in this country are in fact socialized. I completely and totally agree with that as well. Accepting that now becomes a discussion not against socialized transportation but about the best allocation of where to place those resource dollars and this is where Bill Lind and CfPT begin the conversation. Last month Bill gave a talk to the Atlanta Sustainability Roundtable on a Paleo-Conservative POV for Mass Transit and the focus was on rail and street car investments. You can watch the presentation here and I encourage you to do so. Bill for one rightly explodes the myth that our automobile as we know it was the outcome of the great freemarket system. It is in fact far from it. Transportation was at one time an action of the free market but the socialism of the automakers ended that long ago.

If they can do it with state funds only, I say go for it. I see no reason the rest of the country should have to help pay for a system that only benefits California.

Watch the Bill Lind presentation video where he discusses cost and actual built and operating rail system that are working models to follow. Very thought provoking and IMO it could be done with state and even local funds only.

I still in principle oppose such systems on other grounds but Bill is right, transport is already socialized and in truth very few people want to give that up. So this makes the argument all about costs and best allocation of resources and in that regard, Bill's POV on mass transit has a strong position at the table IMO.

I don't believe they are being laid off because they are striving for smaller government. They are laying off those workers because the government is getting backhanded by reality which is what occurs with most liberal pipe dreams like this high speed rail system.

Dont look now doom and gloomers, but metrolink reports that ridership INCREASED 50% during the Carmageddon over the weekend showing that residents will use the train system if it assists them in travel.

Its all mindset folks, and america needs to change theirs.

No, it only shows that "residents will use the train system if" they are FORCED to.

Let's have the ridership figures NOW, after Carmaggedon.

Yeah, I'd would change my mindset during this too. I'd burn my 33" wide rear tires on a DIFFERENT street then.

Angelinos could've just done the Democratic thing during carmageddon and stayed home from work, stayed on the couch with feet up and chilled out for 53 hours !!

Well that could be true but I think many Angelinos are already doing that as a result of something the republicans did and then later with democrat help get expanded. Under the democrat ideal you describe, the kicking back is purely a voluntary thing but the repubs. changed the rules and made in mandatory for many. Democrats only seem to be piling on and making it worse!

Its funny how the same people who said HYBRIDS wouldnt sell in america are the same ones who say high speed rail wont work. Here in california, 1 in 5 cars sold is a hybrid. They are everwhere here in california.

More and more people here are making a hybrid at least one of the cars they own and the mindset continues to change. It takes time, europe and japan have done it already, change mindsets, but we are still a greedy, abusive and over abuser of natural resources in the world.

High speed rail options when implemented around the country, will change the way we travel and the sooner we build it, the cheaper it will cost.

Peace.

The people I know, have switched back from their hybrid to real cars......

The massive recalls from Toyota have killed a lot of sales and turned away a lot of curious lookers.

It's catching on if you are Ed Begley.....but John Q. isn't taken with them!

I need a new truck, but nobody makes a hybrid . My current truck (1996) gets the same mileage as a newer one . Why is that ?
