Hiring on Hold?

Ive applied as an off the street 22.4 driver. I have completed my application, road test and DOT physical. And apparently the background check is complete but the results haven't come back yet. I was told to call the company that UPS and outsources this to and was told that all is well, and no additional information is needed. I was told to call the hub I'd applied to have them check on it. The hub I've applied at has said that they were able to hire 10 drivers, but it was knocked down to 0 just a few days before I came in for the road test. I spoke to HR today and she said they're still on hold, and that they can't bring on any new drivers until they lift the hold.... if they do. Anyone ever experience this? Is this common? I feel like I'm limbo as I'll be moving 2.5 hours away to take this job. Any insight would be helpful. Thanks!

You can’t trust anything anybody in management tells you.

Any idea where I can get some straight forward information from? To get a better idea of when I can expect to start.
Definitely not from the hiring people, they don’t know Much of anything. If you can contact the center you’re going to work and they might be able to give you an idea of when they might need you. Summer is coming up and they usually do hire, although we have been slow.

Moving 2.5 hours to take this job? Aren't there any closer UPS locations to you? Management is Probably just dragging their feet. They might be waiting for an open spot at driving school. Might be giving you to run around.

I currently live and work in the Atlanta area, there are multiple hubs. I don't want to stay in this city any longer than I have to. I am 3 years in at Amazon, 2 of which are in the step van. The sup that did my road test seemed very impressed, and eager to get me working. I'm trying not to bug them by constantly calling also... not trying to be "that" person before I even start the job. 🤣

Does local HR have the final say on who is hired and who is not? Don't wanna piss her off and not hire me because I am persistent. She did say that there are a couple other people who have also completed the process and are waiting as well. As far as driving school, I've been told it's still virtual and that I'd do 3 days online and then 2 days at the center.

HR? We don’t really have a HR anymore, She’s probably not HR she’s probably some sort of new hire specialist/coordinator. Bug her. You’re moving 2 hours away.

🤣🤣🤣 I so feel like it's so confrontational... and I'm so not that type. But out the shell I step... I'll "follow up" with her tomorrow. I'm just ready to get this show on the road.

Well if you’re not confrontational this job might not be for you. It’s a battle, we make good money, have good benefits, but earn every penny. Good luck!

Oh, I love the job! I work 6 days a week at Amazon, and I'd work 7 if they'd let me. But our DSP gets dinged for "working hours compliance" if they do. I just don't like to be confrontational with the people who are the only ones who are able to assist when it's needed.

I have heard also that there is a hiring freeze for new drivers. Get on PT and bid a FT job when the freeze is lifted. The company has to promote 6 inside for every off the street hire.

We have random newbies show up to start work without anyone in the center knowing about them. They’ll work that night then get the ole “call you when we need you.” If you’re looking for a straight answer, you won’t find it. UPS is worse than the government about giving people the run around. Definitely wouldn’t move 2.5 hours away. UPS does not care that you moved and now you can’t pay your rent because you aren’t working.
