How can ups pay these high wages?

High roller here...

Right now, UPS is hiring 100-800 preloaders in the US, probably in response to management making excuses. Next, it follows that they will harass & micromanage the drivers until the summer seasonal time period, (especially since they aren't hiring any drivers.) This effort will be to try and squeeze max profit out of the drivers.

Corporate is hiring a bunch of sales executives, probably due to some sort of restructuring shake-up. The old guard might be complacent, and isn't coping with the loss of business during the union contract negotiations. They might be just adding new blood, and expanding the existing sales force, though - who knows?

For some time now, UPS stores have been touted as one of the best franchise opportunities, (whether it is true or just puff-piece manipulations,) and corporate is pushing development and expansion. Looks like they plan on expanding the store offerings in the upcoming construction season. Also, since they are pushing business away from customer counters to UPS stores and Access Points, they plan on sucking more blood from the franchisees.

There seems to be some developments in capital management at corporate. They are probably liquidating hot property, while flushing some extra equipment that is no longer needed, since Covid. Probably positioning themselves to make some acquisitions, too, as world turmoil and the election year conspire to shake things up.

And, for about the last year and a half, UPS has been trying to offset the domestic downturn by expanding international services. Looks like they're putting in double, maybe triple the effort around the world, hiring and expanding ops.

Might be a good time to go on vacation from the end of May, until the beginning of July, as Carol rolls up her sleeves, and sorts it all out.

Air trailers are estimated to average $110,000 worth of packages.
i explained once to a sort manager that the 2DA trailer he wanted to EC so he could run a random longbox instead would pay for his entire sort in GSR's, dude was a complete mongoloid I literally wrote out the numbers using a wax crayon on a belt lol

Overtime and 9.5 grievances are through the roof, cutting routes will only add to that. The only cuts that need to be made are at the corporate level

Our center's newest thing is not worrying about driver's 9.5 until after they've gone over twice. So on Monday they don't even look at it, even though it's the easiest day for them to cover 9.5 and the days when a driver could only need help with a few stops or one pickup are skipped and they have to figure out how to cover 60 stops on a Friday. Genius.
