Because it would cause an undercount of immigrant populations. The purpose of the census is to obtain an accurate count of people that live here. Intentionally obtaining an inaccurate count would be contrary to the founder’s intent.
The purpose of the census is to have an accurate count of citizens and their location so that congressional districts can be apportioned accordingly. Democrats don't want a citizenship question asked because with their sanctuary policies blue States stand to gain more congressional power if all people are counted, not just citizens. Open borders means more power, even if the illegal immigrants can't vote(yet). And the eventual blanket amnesty and path to citizenship Democrats hope to obtain means a stranglehold on power. Not for nothing all the histrionics about conditions in detention centers.

And although there are 4 races of humans today, many anthropologist argue there is only one race.
The Chinese argue there are 5 races, based on color. And through mitochondrial DNA many scientists believe humankind was much more diverse until a super volcano went off in what is now Indonesia about 74,000 years ago.

Wrong.

It’s a count of everyone.

We’re not curing cancer here, just read the Constitution.

Someone posted it earlier. Appears they didn't count everyone. Was there an amendment to the Constitution? And why is it that for most of the last 200 years a citizenship question was included, but the Obama administration did away with it?

OK, mea culpa. Did some googling and they do count everyone, including illegal aliens. All the more reason the Democrats want open borders. It's about who has the power, and the money.

It will be fine

The census bureau does other surveys that use maths to determine things like citizenship. House seats are built off the census data. Republicans want an undercount to keep more power in rural states with less population. So, you’re correct that the issue is all about power, your side wants it to reside in an ever shrinking minority.

The last time a citizenship question was asked on the census was the 1950’s.

Thanks Obama.
