IT Layoffs

Look at the age of all the employees affected. Let me know what the team of lawyers in DC tell you. I'd be interested in any class action suit myself.

UPS has said that as part of the "Seperation Allowance Plan", apporpriately named SAP, involuntary terminations would start in Shared Services on or about August 2009. Has this started? What if this fails?

Tomorrow will be IS Windward layoff. Wonder how many can they get rid there. What's next after IS layoff? Layoff the HPI's (highly paid individuals)?
I just heard about this site and checked it out and I was in Shared Services at WW and I got the brown axe. I never was placed on a PIP or met with HR and I still was shown the door. Only 3 people in the building was let go and two of those were from the same group. The environment at WW was so stressful that I'm thankful to be gone but I feel sorry for the ones still having to put up with the micro management style of some of the managers and if your from WW you especially know the one lady I'm talking about. We were made to feel more like criminals then partners when we were escorted out. I wonder if I had been willing to brown nose I could have my job but if I had to do that then it's just as well I'm gone because I never had and never will do that because I respect myself to much and my manager too little to ever do that.

Yes, age was a factor in the layoffs. It's too obvious, however, I know that there are those loyals UPS'ers who disagree. Here's another one for you which I will be sure to leak out to the general public. What I'm about to say is very factual. I have names and circumstances and I'm encouraging these two folks involved to seek legal help. UPS is terminating employees who have cancer. One has already been terminated and the other has been given a return to work date and if this person does not return, they will be terminated. This person can't return because they are still undergoing chemotherapy. I no longer work at UPS, but I remember the old partnership, as solid as the company was at that time and this would never happen back then. It's all about money now. UPS being self insured so circumstances like this is costing them some real money. So.......all UPS'ers should know that if they get sick, the odds of UPS hanging on to your butt is slim to none. And no, these aren't poor performers. These are two very good workers. This is what your company has turned into. I personally believe that UPS is trying to unload their costliest employees before the potential healthcare reform kicks in. I believe this deplorable activity will be difficult post reform. That's just a hunch though. Either way folks, it's your company now. I've been out for a while and very happy. Just trying to warn those who believed in the partnership as I once did. It's bogus these days. GO FEDEX !!!

I'm betting you could play "madlibs" with your comment, and interject any of the NJ IT buildings or people in place of what you commented on. This kinda thing has been a virus that has been passed from building to building for well over the last 3 years. Micromanaging, treating employees like a criminal, etc. Look at it from this perspective. The company is not the same, they stopped caring about the employees a long time ago, and they're doing you a favor, and you'll find that once you have a job outside the Brown wall, you will be in a way better place. I'm willing to bet they outsource most of their IT services offshore over the next 5 years, and then no one in the US will have to worry about how crappy they're treated, cause they simply won't have jobs.

So you sound like a manager with a bullseye on his back. Are you one of the strong ones who has pushed back ? Are you in fear of getting the axe ? Do you screw your direct reports ? Did you stand up for what you believe is correct ? If not, why post this bullcrap ? Did you buy the insurance you mentioned ?

Here I am in TSG with MAY right around the corner, now that much of the consolidation is completed we are starting to feel the impact. I can see TSG getting cut in half by the end of MAY.

I agree with you. They are not worried about the daily plan, no more logs to be opened unless it by a user. Most upgrades are automatic, user problems are fixed by the Help desk (in some cases). Logs you do get, you're told how much time you can work on it. It's getting bad! :sad-little:

Position Reclassification - Have You or anyone you know recently had their Job Reclassified with LITTLE to NO Notice? This has been going on in ISNJ for awhile now - you may not lose your job but you MAY just: a) Be downgraded to a lower level: Options to Mgr or Mgr to Sup etc. b) Loss of Salary - to coincide with the downgraded lower level c) Loss of MIP / Options - once again, to coincide with the downgraded lower level. Just not the same UPS I grew to admire back in the 80's - So don't be surprised when you or your co-worker are asked to take a reduction in grade & pay, have a your workload doubled, added night and weekend work, more shift changes etc - it's just the sign of DB doing his thing to satisfy the Board - they re-aligned the entire US Regions / Districts and now it is time for DB to step up to the plate and start trimming his workforce in IS. If you thought last year's "Dead Man Walking" down Main Street was something - you ain't seen Nothing Yet.

Do you know this for a fact? Has it happened to anyone you know? Did it happen to you? (sorry if it did) I know someone who was going to be treated in this fashion but told managers to give a couple months to retire. Shame that it has to come down to that though. It was either P.I.P. or leave.

And where does it end? When does JM become an App Mgr? Or is it only below those levels?

I have seen this happen to 4 of my fellow I.Sers - pretty much the same story as the person you know - Take a couple of months to think about it then TAKE THE CUT or RETIRE or QUIT. Not too many options - Seems like it is from the Entry Level Option Level on Down. A real shame - and there was never any mention about P.I.P either - I'm sure JM got him marching orders from DB - don't you think?

Two were old enough for retirement so they opted for that but the other two stayed - I guess they felt that they were to old to look for another job / too young to retire / had no choice but to stay so they could support the family. The wound up with more work and always looking over their shoulders for the next Axe to fall - what a shame - all good people too.
