If it is proven that you did not steal his wallet, loss prevention AND the mechanic should be fired.
NO! How do you get to firing a mechanic who lost his wallet? I didn't read anywhere that the mechanic accused him/her! As for the LP.......I think he is doing his job, a bit too forceful maybe (maybe!) but he left it at "if they can trace it back to me I will be terminated." This, I would assume (assume!), to be a factual statement.

To the OP, I know you probably felt threatened, especially if you picked up a receipt and not a wallet, but put the mechanic's shoe on your foot for a moment. If you had lost your wallet wouldn't you want LP to be a bit forceful and not pull a, "well he said he didn't do it so he must not have done it!" Getting too defensive does not help the optics of the situation.

I was pulled in for a meeting with the LP supervisor. He said that a mechanic lost his wallet and that I was caught on camera picking it up and taking it. This was the camera outside the building facing the sidewalk/street crosswalk. He asserts that I picked it up from the street and took it.

While I did in fact stop in the middle of the street crosswalk, it was my crumbled up receipt that fell out of my pocket while digging in my pockets for my wallet. I told him this but he still asserted that I didn't drop anything. The meeting concluded with him stating that if they trace the wallet back to me that they will terminate me.

What really happened was that the security guard saw me pick up my receipt and assumed I grabbed the wallet. She even asked me if I found something on the floor. I told her I dropped something. And the camera doesn't even show the crosswalk, only 3 feet of it.

So they're accusing me based on flimsy circumstances. It's bogus and stupid.
I think if they knew for sure you would of been fired on the spot. I think they thought you had the opportunity to steal it and we’re trying to get a confession

Next time you meet with LP, tell them you think they stole the wallet. When they ask why you think that, tell them you've got as much evidence of it as they have on you and you've just got a feeling that they did it.

Coulda woulda shoulda, I would have turned around and went right back to the guard shack and got rid of it there.
