I think Mother's Day and Father's Day should be for kids to show their parents what they mean to them.

Depending on the way you read it.....the kids can show their parents what their parents mean to them OR they can show their parents what they (themselves) mean to the parents.

The day could be used to tell your children how much they mean to you. This was why I sent my daughter a Mother's Day card; in fact, there are cards specifically for that purpose.

I get stuff for my wife and have my kids give it to her from them too. My kids can understand we are thankful for their mom and I can show her appreciation for being the mom of my kids.
We spend some time at her mom's and then go see mom later in the day.
