New Package Cars

We recently received around 20 new package cars at our center over the last 2 years. All PC1000, PC700, and PC500s. However, no new PC800`s. Does anyone know if they are still making them and if not, why? With the increase of the size of all the pkg`s, the PC700`s don`t have enough room and the PC500`s are completely useless.

I was just told recently by a driver sup they don't make 8s any longer, don't know why. Your lucky if your center got new cars, we can't even order new pants!!!!

At our center, many routes that used to have P1000's are now being replaced with P1200's. The packages are getting bigger, the bulk stops are getting bulkier and the residential stops are increasing as well. The route I'm running next week just got a new WalMart Supercenter. It's not open for business yet but they are stocking the shelves. The lowest amount of packages they got last week was 150. With 100-110 stops (20 or less residentials) and 45 industrial pu's. that end at 6:30pm, it should be a fun week!

P700's are 100 cubic feet smaller than a p800. The reason they don't use them any more is because the new truck's are designed differently and the p800 was the fall guy (per say). I got that from a automotive region guy. All of our new truck's will be P/S and automatic's from now on.

Anybody got their hands on one of the new p1000's with the 8.1L chevy motor, Allison automatic in yet? We got 2 in so far, the guys that have drove them, love them. Guys are commenting on the power these cars have.

I took a couple test drives, and they will definitely hold you back in the seat. The accelleration is unbelievable. I punched it at a stop sign and broke traction momentarily.

The only bad thing I see is, better keep drive lines in stock for the cowboys. Can't even get parts in for them yet, tried to order oil filters a month ago, still on back order.

I was suprised when I went down to Baltimore to pick it up. this is the first gas engine in years for the package cars. Might be seeing more of these with the new emission standards for diesels going into effect. Price of diesels are going up with the new standards.

I got a new P1000 about 3 months ago.......what a change. The power steering, the automatic transmission are great. The cab area is alot bigger especially without the shifter on the floor. Mine has a turbo-diesel & the power is impressive. It gets better fuel mileage than the gas trucks. The ABS brakes do help also. It's not as low as some of the other diesels, but better than the old 1990 GMC I had before. All in all, I like it.

We have 1 at the PHL airport and that thing just simply rock's, look's easy to work on, and the power it has is unbelivable. It feels almost like I'm in my race car???? Nah not quite!!!

Nah, not whining. Just can't wait to hear my center manager ask me why I'm not making 9/5 even though the last p/u is after 6:30pm. I like that route though it will be blown out just about every day due to WalMart. I haven't seen customers on that route in about a year so it will be nice to get re-acquainted with them. Truthfully though, instead of just giving us bigger trucks, shouldn't we be adding routes? I'm a part-timer and more routes = more full-time positions. I'd like to get there eventually, know what I mean?

All the newer designed cars have low steps and automatics. They are getting tried of our knees and ankles going out on us. Finally!!!

(Heavy sigh!!) What I would give for an automatic 1000 cube with power steering, a low first step and accessible (sp) shelves. It would be nice if they all came with Christmas helpers too. The truck I am driving now is an antique.

I have heard that the engineers are going to design the next generation of Package Cars with wheelchair lifts and special hooks to hang our walkers on, these will be for those of us that are under the Central States Pension Plan. The Feeder Units will have them too!

DragRacer, have you looked under the hood yet on one of them, they got the ECM mounted right on top of the radiator. Boy, I don't like that. Other then that, I got to agree, they will be nice to work on.

Bad thing so far is, can't find any information on Crossfleet about them, Already had some wiring issues with the lights on 1 of them. But I'm sure that will change once they start updating somestuff.

I have a new 1000, International chassis, and I like it alot. The power steering, and pickup is great. What I like most about it is the dash. The defrost works great, so when customers give me food, I keep it warm on cold winter days.
The draw back is the grill on the front of the car. There isn't much protection from road debris or big rocks to puncture the radiator. It's not my personal vehicle, so I'm not worried about that.

No....I don't really see it I work dayshift and the only time I see it is when it's going out for the day!!!

I also don't care for the small front bumper. It look's like the rear bumper off an old ford van!!! I like the big cow pusher front bumper that's on our diesel's better!!!

contract language states that all new cars have to low profile steps, automatics, and have power steering. other than that manufactures are allowed certain leadways as to what engines, and tranmsissions that are used. Freightliners are using either the cummins isb, or the mercedes benz mb904, international is using the vt 365 or the vt275, workhorse are using the vt275 or the chev 5.4l. at our center we hae a p12 frieghtliner w/the mb904, not overly peepie but good on fuel.
