New Sticker

A new sticker has been placed on the engine cover on all the package cars in the center. What's up? Maybe a digital DVIR, finally?

I noticed these on both the Package Cars I drove today. I tied to scan one of them after I entered my beginning mileage, but the scan wouldn't take. So I just entered my car number manually as usual. I don't know what they are for, they were put in the back a few years ago, I thought this was so the mechanics could scan them for some reason.:confused:1

What the hell is YOUPS??
I'm not sure if we're talking about the same barcode, but all the package cars in my centre have a ULD barcode on the back door, the same as the feeder trailers do, so that packages can be scanned to the package car. I've never seen a barcode under the hood before though, just a guess, but its probably for the mechanics.

Mine is on the engine cover, although I didnt notice it til I punched out.
I think it is so we wont make a mistake entering our car number, I think the one in the back is so mechanics can scan it when they do PMI etc, but Im just guessing.

The old stickers on the bulkhead door said "Do not scan with DIAD" . The new stickers on the doghouse cover say "Scan only with DIAD". If the stickers are for the same purpose someone screwed up on the wording.

I asked the Automotive Sup about it & he said there will be a Diad upgrade so you can scan the car # instead of keying it in. What will this save UPS?

The way I see it it will ensure that you lifted the hood and hopefully did a pre trip.Maybe in the near future, you wont be able to put in a leave bldg time in until you do.

I noticed a similar sticker on a truck I took out yesterday. I was wondering the same thing, but it only make sense that we can scan our truck number in just like how I scan in my drop boxes when I pick them up.

I thought the same thing but it doesn't make any sense. Why the added cost (fancy sticker to scan) just to enter the truck number. I would think some sort of electronic DVIR report is heading our way.

I was under the impression that that is the new scan barcode for the PT sups that are going into each car in the early mornings and scanning packages. First they scan the barcode, then scan random packages in your truck and then cross check that at the end of the day to make sure the driver scanned every package that was scanned in the morning. We had a seperate PCM about that today and was told that scan check audits are no joke and that the first offense is a warning letter, second is a 1 day suspension and the 3rd is an intent to terminate. I beleive that they added the barcodes in the truck because the drivers were saying that the scan check audit personnel were scanning packages that were outside of the car and misscaning packages in reference to what car they were actually in. In our building (P-Dale in Atlanta), part time employees were doing the scan audits. Now, part time sups from various parts of the building will now be doing the job. Then again, I could be totally wrong about it. I'll ask tomorrow but it does make sense. Scanning every package every day is the flavor of the month right now. UPS evidently is paying alot of claims on packages that were delivered but never scanned so they lose visibility.

In my preload the PT Supes do what you mentioned but I was told that is to check our packages per hour...

I asked the belt supe if they counted add/cuts and he said no... I said so there are 25 to 75 packages for each car that are not added to my numbers and he said no, only what we scan and what the driver leave the building with... I told him - I guess your pph are invalid...

Thats a load of crap, its a daily audit to ensure every package scanned in the audit, gets scanned that day.Personally I find it degrading.I do my job
every day and if they compiled thier little scans, they would find that I never miss one,and move on to some newbie driver trying to pull a fast one.The girl who audits my car is OK.She asks permission and I have to inform her the sections of my car to scan because I still have to pull off 20 stops! Maybe she asks permission because one day I was in a bit early and I had to warn her that I`d had beans the night before.Hmm

We have them in our cars in the center as of Tuesday of this week. We also were told that the diad would have a upgrade. So the scan bar would work, reason we were given was to help fuel and oil that the Oms in the center do every day. Also, the make sure the correct car number was use. And to see if all car in the center are actual use or not. Its a way to control the ordering of new cars.. So they said

The new diad scan sticker doesn't have anything to do with automotive. We just installed them 1.5 weeks ago in all the cars in the center. We were told to have them in all cars before the 15th. The scan only has to do with the specific car number it is in. Nothing to do with information of the driver.

Most likely they are for the physical audit scans in the am.

On a side note--Has anyone here had to get re-training classes for not scanning the packages that the "logical" scans put in your pkg car? (the pkgs that should have been in your car but in reality were not)
