Ground Crew at the Airport

How is it that the ground crew at the airport are not union? Specifically local 245 in Missouri. I am talking about the employees that unload the cans and place the packages on the belt to be sorted into cars that shuttle the air to regional centers. I don't know all of their duties, but they drive tugs with the cans and unload.

Local 245? Isn’t that Springfield, Missouri? Do they even have an airport?

You need a minimum of 40 ramp employees for that operation to become union. It’s in master contract air gateways

40 employees requires at the minimum 2 wide body planes.

It might be some type of airport regulation that the people who do this have to be airport employees. Just a stab in the dark, who knows.

Only the supervisors work for UPS at our airport.
