What did it do? What is it doing when turning the key?

First the battery and brake lights came on, then other lights. Then everything dimmed and my headlights went dark. Then it started running funny and shut off.

Guy I work with told me it sounds like the alternator.

That is what it sounds like, a pretty easy fix, maybe about $100

Wut?? I've never heard of an alternator repair being that cheap?
