I also deliver out in the country. Fortunately, the village and township both require 911 signs at the end of the driveway. Also, I have been on my route for 20 years. The only time I need a flashlight is if I am delivering a Skippy split in another town.
Every once in a great while, the occasional driver may have to get out of his/her truck and find his/her way around in the dark.
Doesn't happen often, but now and then the flashlight just might be useful.

Calmed him down and then sorted his last 60 in hin number order as I didn't really know the area
I then proceeded to finish 40 of them blind in the time he did the other 20.
