Not detaining people hopping our borders is open borders. You don’t want the children separated, you don’t want the children held together, that only leaves you want the children and their parents to be released into the country.

I’m not sure who the ‘you’ is in your post, but that’s all wrong.

Catch and release didn’t work, whatever the heck is going on now isn’t working (and is unnecessarily punitive), but if I argue that families shouldn’t be separated that’s a very far cry from me personally advocating for ‘open’ borders, whatever that means.

Get back to me about funding for family planning, sex education, and access to contraceptives.

If those who are so dead-set against abortion weren’t so opposed to the above, and if their policies supported the child once it was actually born, I could get on board.

I’m not talking about You specifically...no one ‘likes’ abortion, but denying availability to contraceptives and preaching abstinence isn’t quite working.

Whenever abortion rights are restricted, abortions go up.

My stance is families don't need to be separated at the border, whatever our immigration policy is. It's counter-productive, achieves no recognizable goal, and is unnecessarily punitive.

No matter what the current administration says, it wasn't a given that they had to act this way, they chose to act this way.

I'm not arguing that things were great before, or that they were even successful before, but what's going on now helps no one, least of all the USA.

There's a lot of rhetoric coming out of this administration that doesn't jive with facts or the truth, which seems to be a pattern, and I find that problematic.

You’re being very intellectually dishonest and talking around who is to blame for the policy of seperating children at the border, while also not offering a firm stance on what should be done. Trump is enforcing the border laws, leftist are the ones who sued and got courts to rule that they had to separate children from parents brought into custody, before trump was ever in office. Congress should pass a clean bill, not some kill Feinstein non sense and allow these kids to stay with their parents by law. Good luck getting leftist stepping off this hill for the families they’ll politically posture this till the end.

Trump had everything to do with the policy, because he is the one who chose to implement it.

You've ignored the fact that legally the executive branch has wide discretion over enforcement of immigration laws. It's the same fact the Trump administration has used to defend their Muslim ban.
