Part time pay increase in the 2018 contract?

Long term part time employees should get a good bump in wages.

New hires generally last months, not years. Why should long term employees take contract concessions for essentially temporary employees who have nothing invested in their career here?

If UPS needs to bump up the starting wage to attract enough workers, let them. But it should cost nearly nothing in concessions.

A temporary PVD classification should cost UPS a concession of controlling peak hours. They will say they need seasonal PVD because we can not handle peak volume, and need it to control excessive overtime during peak. Fine...Then make all overtime in excess of 10 hours a day strictly voluntary year round.

If PVD is the solution for peak serge, then it is also the solution for peak serge excessive overtime!

Also PVD should cost...No forced 6th punches or forced holidays nationally.

They want PVD, then there should be a cost. We gave them SurePost free and look how large it has become.
Absolute 100% correct on surepost....

Can't blame the Union. They don't get involved or quit. The union says thank you suckers! Pt ER's could own every contract if they paid attention. They out number Ft ER's 4 to 1 if not more.
Not necessarily.... 1 pt’er loads 3 or 4 full timers trucks.... many of the car washers are full time inside guys , along with the clerks....if your building runs a large day sort then there could be lots of pters... but then it gets balanced back to the middle if you run a 100-200 person feeder Dept.....

A tiny center. 22 full time routes. With about 30 pt'ers. 15 pt covers
Then you have no idea what it like to work in a Hub with hundreds of PT hourlies and Art 22.3 and Red Circle PT and FT employees. With new PT earning $10/hr working next to an Art 22.3 making what they make working next to a Red Circle PT making more then everyone else and taking the easier jobs.

No thank god! You earned your red circle pay. Cause you stuck it out. It's easier for pt to quit now. So they do.

If the pt'ers don't vote. I don't feel sorry for them. If UPS throws ft'ers a raise and bonus. We will seize it. But, I'm still a no vote.

Almost everyone on all 3 belts are going to the next union meeting to address pt wages and seasonal helpers. I never thought anyone would be on board and talked to 2 people and suddenly snowballed and our union rep came in a few days later.

The biggest gripe is working 12+ hours then getting driver helper at 10.20 while seasonal who are never hired or show get 15/hour and weekly bonuses.

The general consensus is better pay, must have a peak and one year under their belt, 12.50 is not unreasonable by any means and $15 after a year or two of dedicated service.

Everyone seems a bit irked that these randoms make much more than us, don't do half the work, and we are already assets/resources. Use us.. lots of us wanna do it but everyone is turning it down. OT after 8 hours after a 10h shift for 10.20 come on now.

Why would those part timers get involved? There is no motivation to. Over here, part time starting wage is lower than minimum wage. UPS has slowly degraded part time work into a crappy job that only hurts union involvement.

Could not imagine if PTers were making the same as drivers we would be swamped with applications. UPS is to stupid to do that tho, we could afford the best employees and not the crap we settle with.
