Pay guarantee vs actual pay

Say you get hired before someone else, but that person works more often, for whatever reason, and attains seniority before you. You end up with less seniority than someone hired after you?

Here, in that scenario, I guess they would. When I went FT, there was a group of 15 or so and I was right in the middle. I was the only one not a cover driver. The guys ahead of me all got their date, one day apart. Everyone behind me waited until I qualified. My seniority date was my 30th day, and everyone followed behind me staggered by one day.

Not saying it's right, but that's how it was/is.
