A good man doesn't need religion to behave well. A good man needs religion to commit evil acts in the name of that religion.
You couldn't have said it better. I don't believe that there is even one of the world's great religions that doesn't have blood on it's hands resulting from it's attempts to forcible impose it's religion on other civilizations. Many who lived in peace prior to it's arrival.

And Jesus prayed that his followers would be united. No matter how divided we are, there are Christian principles that are universal. And whether you believe in God or not those principles would help anyone have a better life. Love they neighbor as thyself. Do unto others as you would have them do unto you. These aren't horrible things. If non-believers aren't comfortable praying then they can abstain. But if a coach wants to say a quick prayer after a game with players who want to participate they should be able to do so without the ACLU attacking him. Things have been taken too far and our culture as a whole has suffered for it.
Until we as Christians can treat each other in such a manner, maybe we should STFU AL AND figure that out.

And what you don't get is those who commit such acts in the name of Christianity aren't following Christ's teachings. They will be held accountable. What I see from your's and other's writings(in many other forums) is the need to shout down everyone who disagrees with your view. To control the message. To control what people think and what's allowable. I don't see the freedom you claim to espouse. And your far Left agenda is your religion. I worry a lot more about guys like you running things. Big government is control and taxation is it's lifeblood. That's a big part of why you hate Trump, he's for draining the lifeblood out of your control by lowering taxes.

It will be fine

Any man who commits evil acts in the name of Christianity isn't practicing Christianity.
That's obvious. The problem is that man believes he is. That is the issue with irrational belief structures like religion. They can lead people to believe they are acting righteously while committing violent acts.

Sometimes. I think the vast majority of time people know when they are acting badly no matter what they tell themselves.

Actually the Apostle Paul warned against such people who claim to be Christians but are using it to do evil. They're wolves in sheep's clothing(where that saying originated) and their God is their belly. For all the raging against Christianity some do I wonder if they realize that Jesus wasn't fond of the rich? He said it was easier for a camel to enter through the eye of the needle(a small door in city walls that let people in but would be extremely difficult for camels to pass through) than for a rich man to enter into heaven. People who strive to get rich while taking advantage of others should take note if they believe they are Christians.

Again you can take anyone of the teaching' that are publicly accused of belonging to Christ and use it to support any point of view that you want. But when you attempt to forcibly impost those views including efforts to make them the law of the land this nation has will and continue to respond to those efforts with absolute revulsion. And by the way take a closer look at trump's tax plan. The people at the bottom currently pay a tax rate of 10% Under Trump's plan it will go UP to 12% while the higher income people you know the ones whose ground they walk on you worship will get a big tax cut.

Tell that to the WWII vets who never thought for a moment that they would find themselves having to take up arms to engage in history's greatest conflict which cost a nation of only 138 million people at the time 410,000 lives.

I appreciate your ability to equate two or more things that are completely different.

I'm pointing to the hypocrisy of Vt and scores like him who are always bashing the political movement while imperfect is responsible for the creation of the programs he'll have his hand out to collect which will in turn will provide the economic fall back position intended and to supplant the retirement security his employer has by his own admission reneged upon in order to divest itself of so called "legacy costs".

He's not a hypocrite for demanding to get what he was promised and was forced to pay for.

Unless there is a prohibition on voucher money going to religious schools they shouldn't be allowed. I don't want my tax dollars funding religious indoctrination.

I don't want my tax dollars funding liberal political indoctrination. The compromise is a voucher system. You can educate your kids as you see fit, as can I.

The God of the Bible is absolutely savage. He killed first born children and every human - man, woman and child save one family. He is a jealous god and vengeful. He commanded men to kill their children and wants a blood sacrifice.

The United States government is the oldest continuous democracy in the world. We are governed by the Constitution. Nowhere in there will you find a reference to any god. This is intentional. Many of the 10 commandments (at least those people want posted; there is more than one list) directly violate our Constitution. Enlightenment and Renaissance thought underpin our democratic republic. The puritanical thought represents some of our darker days.

Separation of church and state has helped both the country and the church flourish. The US is far more religious than other western countries because of this separation and pluralism.

I am from Appalachia. Very religious and quite conservative. Drug abuse is hitting the area hard. Teen pregnancy and abortion strikes harder there too. Sectarianism has not provided the area with better outcomes.

Neither did billions and billions and billions of dollars in antipoverty programs over the past 50 years. Then again, it's hard to combat the inbreeding.

It's all about getting religion back into schools and PROFIT. As someone else said, I can hardly wait until the charter Islamic schools start.

Few of us who support charter schools/vouchers have any issue with Muslims operating their own schools. I don't. If the parents are jihad freaks, I'm happy that the kids aren't in the same schools as my kids.

I must have missed the MSNBC special but where on earth are Christian churches destroying societies and making life worse for mankind? The church I do volunteer work for has a yuge social system that is very efficient unlike our welfare system, they have a family planning center that doesn't do abortions but instead it really helps a family plan (helped my wife and I adopt our girls), and they have missionaries all over the world making 3rd world countries a little better.
