What determines a state's "color" isn't just who the governor is. Who they vote for president, senators, representatives. Which party controls the state legislature. Even which party controls the major cities. Maryland and especially Massachusetts are clearly blue states. States that are somewhat evenly divided are called purple. And guess what? Being the most powerful man in the state of Massachusetts means with 85% of the electorate registered Democrats Charlie Baker kissed a lot of ass to become governor. Don't think for a second he suddenly became conservative after being elected if he wanted to be reelected.
