And I think it's safe to say that they also realize that when they sign the authorization to treat form that they are financially liable for 100% of the cost of the treatment as well as the fact that the days of walking out the door and stiffing the hospital with the bill are long gone.
Turned out when I had a big hospital bill in September that if you're a self pay they reduce the bill to approximately what I would owe if I had insurance. So two things, insurance today still leads to having a sizeable bill that hurts average Americans, and you're not really worse off not having insurance. Assuming of course that the large hospital I went to is typical.

Pathetic.

I’ve done that before for non-covered procedures and a surgery not covered.

He did in fact freeload off the people who play by the rules and pay the premiums to an insurer who then negotiates fee structures with the healthcare service provider which he benefited from without having to be encumbered with the costly premiums......Hey wait a minute!.......THAT"S SOCIALISM!.

I know you are trying to be funny but that is just ignorant or stupid.
That is called a free market.

So you're saying that paying the medical provider the same thing the patient would have, but making the fee negotiator wealthy in the meantime, is a good thing?

Think you just shot Socialism in the foot again.

Millions who can't afford premiums are getting totally subsidized by those who can. You're ok with that, huh? When I went into the hospital I didn't know they would do this, thought I was going to have a huge bill. Leave it to you to turn it into something sinister.

Does your idea of "free market" include the abolition of health insurance altogether freeing up hospitals to charge whatever they want and accept only cash or require prepayment? Mr VT was the beneficiary of price protections that people other than himself had to pay for. Remember his gripe was always about what he perceived to be people reaping benefits they didn't have to pay for while others did as a form of socialism? Isn't this a similar form?

Not at all. It's indicative of the much higher fees that hospitals charge the non-insured then knock down to considerably less to make the patient feel he's getting a reasonable deal. Insurance companies already have such fees hammered out and contractually agreed to. But fees have gone up across the board for everyone in order to cover the completely subsidized poor who pay nothing. Whether I pay premiums or pay as I go I'm going to pay something.

Exactly. You received the full benefit of provider assignment without paying a dime for that protection. To your credit even though you payed subscriber charges without having to pay subscriber premiums you did pay something but imagine what those charges could have been if the others had not stepped up to the plate and purchased the policies in the first place and you had a provider who wasn't as a matter of policy willing to cut you a break . Imagine where we would be in everyone else did what you did.

There is nothing resembling a free market in this country.
It was a free market in my occurrences ... I negotiated and we came to a cash price!
Each side had the chance to walk away.
Individuals still carry on 'free market' exchanges all the time.
Half the stuff I buy (fund-wise) is with an individual and I walk away all the time and I get rejected all the time.
Just bought two Honda generators for less than the retail/store price for one.

And yet your party is actively seeking to eliminate private insurance. Would you make up your mind already!
